The Red Sox had a 3-1 lead going into the top of the sixth inning and after Cook got the first two batters to ground out back to him, he walked Colby Rasmus which gave Edwin Encarnacion the opportunity to bat in the inning. Encarnacion took advantage and hit a rocket over the Green Monster. Cook answered...

David Ortiz 'Proud' Of Jason Varitek As Red Sox Honor Legendary Catcher At Fenway

Four months after the ex-Red Sox catcher announced his retirement at JetBlue Park, Varitek received a formal sendoff in a pregame ceremony at Fenway Park prior to Saturday's game against the Blue Jays. As the elder statesmen of the Red Sox, David Ortiz -- who won two titles along with Varitek -- relished the moment...

BOSTON -- This is developing into a pivotal point in the season. After dropping three straight games to the Blue Jays, including Sunday's 15-7 rout, the Red Sox have tumbled down to 48-48. At this point, they trail the Yankees in the AL East by 10 1/2 games and the AL wild card spot by three and a half. "We've got to play well, especially at this time in the season,...

How Many Home Runs Will Cody Ross Hit This Season?

No one put up much of a fuss when the Red Sox signed Cody Ross to a one-year, $3 million contract in January. The 31-year-old outfielder had had his moments, including hitting .294 with five home runs and 10 RBIs in 15 playoff games in the San Francisco Giants' run to the World Series in 2010. He earned National League Championship Series MVP honors along the way. But Ross had...

BOSTON -- The stint on the disabled list is almost over for Scott Atchison. On the heels of the All-Star break, the Red Sox placed the reliever on the 15-day disabled list after he experienced tightness in his forearm. He cited Beckett's confidence as his grounds for the statement. Turns out, Valentine was wrong with his assertion. During Friday's 6-1 loss to the Blue Jays, Beckett...

Despite assurances from manager Bobby Valentine that Beckett would get through that first inning without incident, it still happened. In fact, he gave up four runs in the first two...

Jon Lester Embarrassed By Recent Starts, Claims He Can't 'Look Guys in the Eye' in the Clubhouse
