It has been 10 years since the (then) Anaheim Angles won the World Series on the backs of rookies John Lackey and Francisco Rodriguez, and older folks like Bengie Molina and Garret Anderson (not to mention the Rally Monkey). Post 2002, the Angles went on a tear, winning the AL West five times between 2004 and 2009.

Since then, though, the Texas Rangers have taken over ownership of the AL West. Last year, the Angels finished 86-76, 10 games behind the Rangers, and 5 games behind the wild card winning Boston Red Sox Tampa Bay Rays. To remedy this problem, the Angels went out and gave C.J Wilson a 5-year, $77.5 million deal. This, as everyone knows, came just after the team broke the bank on a 10-year, $254 million deal to one Albert Pujols. That deal fired up the Los Angeles fanbase, and decimated the Cardinals.Other than those two signings, they filled in other positions with LaTroy Hawkins, Jeff Mathis and Chris Innetta. Are these moves going to help the Angels out? I’d bet so. The Rangers have been on a very impressive run over the last two years, but El Hombre will be able to bring the Angles at least 5 more wins and give them a fighting chance for the AL West (and a fighting chance for the wild card in case Texas goes on an impressive tear).
