Baseball Hot Corner:
The Kansas City Royals have used recent drafts to rebuild their farm system, and most of the players on the current roster are from prior drafts. These include Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, and Alex Gordon to name a few.
They are in a highly competitive Central division with the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians, so making smart picks in the draft will be paramount for them to contend for a division title.
The Royals have the 8th pick in this year’s draft and they elected to go with Hunter Dozier, who plays shortstop for Stephen F. Austin. In the draft there are some amateur shortstops that can stay up the middle. Then there are those who will need to eventually move over to third base, Dozier fits in the latter category.
He is big and strong, and was putting up gaudy numbers during his junior season to move up the draft boards as the spring progressed. Dozier was hitting .404 while being ranked fourth in NCAA Division I in doubles with 22, homers with 14, and slugging .770 before...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. At some point very soon, perhaps even today, the Royals are likely to activate outfielder Jarrod Dyson from his rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha.
And that, of course, means the Royals will have to make a subsequent roster move to make space for Dyson, a speedy and valuable weapon in the Royals' offense.
Perhaps the easy move would be to simply send outfielder...
The Royals completed the final round of the MLB draft Saturday, selecting 41 players over three days.
Kansas Citys first pick, eighth overall, was Hunter Dozier, 21, a shortstop from Stephen F. Austin University.
The club also made six local selections, including Brandon Dunlin (1B), from Longview College; Shane Conlon (1B), from Kansas State; Logan Gray (SS), from Rockhurst...

A few weeks ago, I was screaming that Kansas City Royals general manager Dayton Moore needed to bring in another outfielder to platoon with (or replace) Jeff Francoeur. AAA callup David Lough‘s performance has made such a trade unnecessary.
The team called up Lough after OF Jarrod Dyson injured his ankle attempting to pull back a home run against the Los Angeles...
TASTES LIKE WINNING
Your browser does not support iframes.Teams have been known to employ the use of some strange tactics over the years to improve their play on the field.Take the Kansas City Royals, for example. They have opted to adopt a "rally barbecue sauce" to help get their offense going lately. It's called Billy's, boasts a catch phrase of "Hit it a TON," and is apparently...
Baseball has forever been a game filled with superstition and lore. Some teams rely on rally caps or chewing tobacco to continue dominant performances, but the the Kansas City Royals have their own unique rally item — barbecue sauce.
The Royals have won five straight games heading into Monday night while rallying around their sweet and sticky talisman, which came courtesy of slugger...
The Kansas City Royals have signed first-round draft pick Hunter Dozier for $2.2 million.
The Royals signed the 6-foot-4 shortstop for $937,800 less than the allotted $3,117,800 for a No. 8 selection. The money can be used to sign other picks.
The 21-year-old Dozier led the Southland Conference with a .396 batting average, .755 slugging percentage, 25 doubles and 17 home runs for...
The Kansas City Royals have been riding a hot streak, and it is all thanks to slugger Billy Butler's baller barbecue sauce.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. We already know the strength of this Royals team is its pitching.
And within the next month or so, it could get even stronger with the possible additions of left-hander Danny Duffy and right-hander Felipe Paulino, both recovering from Tommy John surgery last summer.
Duffy already is on rehab assignment and has moved up to Triple-A Omaha.
Paulino now is set to...
(AP) -- Following the worst home losing streak in team history, the Kansas City Royals have a chance to match their longest winning streak of the season there.
Providing Ervin Santana with some much-needed run support would certainly help their chances.
The Royals will try for their fourth straight victory Saturday night when they take on a Houston Astros team that's slumping...
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Billy Butler drove in Eric Hosmer with the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Houston Astros 4-2 on Friday night for their third straight win.
Kelvin Herrera (3-4) worked a perfect eighth inning in relief of James Shields, and Greg Holland pitched the ninth for his 11th save.
Shields was in quite a pitching matchup with...
Umpire Dana Demuth put a little funk into his out call when the Royals’ Chris Getz was caught stealing by Tigers catcher Alex Avila in the fourth inning Monday. One pump wasn’t good enough. Demuth needed several.
Eric Hosmer wasn't sure whether he could score from first when Billy Butler roped a pitch down the third-base line, so he put his head down and sprinted as fast as he could.
He slid home just ahead of the tag for the go-ahead run in the eighth inning Friday night.
And after the Kansas City Royals held on for a 4-2 victory over the Houston Astros for their first three-game winning...
Ervin Santana pitched seven snappy innings and the Kansas City Royals finally backed him up with some offense in a 7-2 victory over the Houston Astros on Saturday night.
Santana (4-5) entered the game with the worst run support among qualifying pitchers in the American League, a big reason why he already had six fruitless tries to win his 100th career game.
He finally reached the...
The major league baseball amateur baseball draft has come and gone and there was an emphasis on family bloodlines. Time will tell if the selections were made because of the talent potential due to their family genes or if the team simply felt a loyalty to the former player. Regardless, here are the bloodlines that were drafted this past weekend.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Maybe the Detroit Tigers have to worry more about a team further down in the division standings after sweeping the club that is right behind them.
The Tigers have won four straight heading into Monday night's road matchup with a Kansas City Royals team seeking its first six-game win streak in two seasons.
Detroit (35-26) extended its lead in the AL...
