The San Francisco Giants activated third baseman Pablo Sandoval from the disabled list Saturday and started him against the Texas Rangers at AT&T Park. Sandoval had been out since May 4 surgery on his left hand. He completed a rehab stint Friday for Triple-A Fresno by hitting two home runs. "We think he's ready," manager Bruce Bochy told CSNBayArea.com. "With Melky (Cabrera) out, sure, that plays a part in it. We're a little short-handed and could use another bat in the lineup."---The Detroit Tigers placed infielder Jhonny Peralta on paternity leave, activated outfielder Austin Jackson from the disabled list and recalled infielder Hernan Perez from the minor leagues Saturday. Peralta could miss one to three games for the birth of a child and Perez was summoned to fill the spot on the roster as a backup infielder. The 21-year-old is hitting .252 with 23 RBI and 11 stolen bases for Single-A Lakeland. Jackson completed a rehabilitation stint with...

The Panda is done hibernating. The Giants' offense went in the tank in the opener of a weekend series with the Rangers, a 5-0 loss, and Bruce Bochy announced afterward that Pablo Sandoval will join the team for Saturday's game. Sandoval homered twice for Triple-A Fresno on Friday. To make room for Sandoval, who's coming off hamate surgery, the Giants optioned first...
Well, it’s been quite a while since I posted some links. As I’m sure nobody wants to revisit today’s game, now feels like as good a time as any to end this drought. Without further ado…

Episode 79: Texas Cainsaw Massacre is out!
In the seventy-ninth episode, Thomas and Danny break their non-podcasting streak to talk about Pablo Sandoval’s return, Ryan Vogelsong’s continued dominance, Brett Pill’s designation for assignment, Theriot’s hot streak, and a visit from Dr. Todd.

In case you haven’t noticed, the San Francisco Giants 2nd base job has been locked down since Ryan Theriot came off the DL. He’s been on fire with the bat. In his last 12 games, Theriot is hitting .432. I would say that’s enough to lockdown a spot for a while.
Outfielder Gregor Blanco has turned into a power hitter over the last 2 games. He’s managed to hit...
Pablo Sandoval came off the disabled list Saturday, insisting
he'll get back to his rigorous fitness routine to be at his best
for the rest of San Francisco's season.
A bad Tim Lincecum start no longer is a rarity. It's part of a trend. Nine hits and four walks in 5 2/3 innings? Thirty pitches in the first inning? For a guy who thinks WHIP (walks and hits over innings pitched) is one heck of a stat, Lincecum might not want to see his these days. As manager Bruce Bochy said of Lincecum, whose WHIP is 1.58, ERA is 6.00 and winless streak...
In Brian Wilson’s absence, Tim Lincecum has taken it upon himself to make Giants baseball torturous once again. Remember, Torture doesn’t mean bad. Torture means just good enough to hang onto your hopes and your dreams and feel like there’s a reason to wake up each morning. Torture is good pitching and bad hitting, or good hitting and bad pitching, or stranding baserunner...
SAN FRANCISCO -- Some bad shoes may have led to Nelson Cruz being out of the lineup for Sunday's finale against the San Francisco Giants.
The Texas right fielder put on new spikes Thursday in Oakland and started feeling some pain in his right Achilles while walking down the steps at the park. He continued to feel some pain in San Francisco and it got worse.
He switched back...
Regression is an ugly buzz word in baseball chatter these days. “X player will regress to the mean after a career year.” “That’s a small sample size, X player will surely regress.” “I regress seeing X3, stupid Brett Ratner.” It doesn’t appear that any of these things apply to Ryan Vogelsong.
Nothing he did today was particularly sparkling or overpowering, but the...

For those of us this year that drafted Tim Lincecum in the early rounds of our fantasy draft or used a nice chunk of our auction budget to pick him up, we are all probably asking ourselves the same question, “Will the real Tim Lincecum please stand up?”Through 12 starts so far this season, Lincecum’s ERA (5.83) is almost double what his career mark ...
SAN FRANCISCO -- In a rematch of the 2010 World Series, the Texas Rangers exacted some revenge, pummeling Tim Lincecum, who was the winning pitcher in the deciding game 5 of that World Series. Ian Kinsler and Josh Hamilton each hit two-run doubles off Lincecum to take the rubber game of the series as the Rangers beat the San Francisco Giants 5-0 on a warm Sunday afternoon. "...

Here are some starting pitchers that can help you out with a spot start.
Barry Zito - I know, I know, it’s not 2005. But Barry Zito is 5-2 with a 2.98 ERA and a WHIP of 1.25. He may not be striking many people out (39 in 66.1 innings) but he’s giving quality starts on a regular basis and when it comes to a one day streamer – that’s what you’re looking for. Just try...
