MLB Insider Reveals Another Mets Addition

The New York Mets have made another move in an attempt to strengthen their roster for the 2023 season.

Late on Thursday, New York came to an agreement with veteran catcher Omar Narvaez on a one-year, $8 million contract that includes a $7 million player option for the 2024 season.

The 30-year-old spent the 2022 season with the Milwaukee Brewers, hitting just .206 with four home runs and 23 RBI.

Narvaez spent the first three seasons of his career with the Chicago White Sox before heading to the Seattle Mariners.

There, he had the best season of his career in 2019, hitting .278 with 22 homers and 55 RBI.

Narvaez has been with the Brewers since 2020.

On Twitter, MLB insider Robert Murray announced the news.

New York already has two catchers in the fold, those being Tomas Nido and James McCann.

They also have the top prospect in all of baseball, Francisco Alvarez.

Needless to say, the Mets have a ton of catcher depth.

The Narvaez signing could allow them to move McCann, who has underperformed since signing a four-year deal with the team prior to the 2021 season.

Narvaez also gives the Mets another left-handed bat in their lineup, joining recently re-signed outfielder Brandon Nimmo, Jeff McNeil, and Daniel Vogelbach.

New York won 101 games during the regular season, barely missing out on their first division title since 2015.

The team fell short against the San Diego Padres in the Wild Card Series, but have had a very busy offseason thus far, having already signed Nimmo and pitchers Justin Verlander, Kodai Senga, and Jose Quintana.
