Found July 23, 2013 on Baseball Hot Corner:
This is a quick preview of MLB’s scheduled games for Tuesday July 23rd, 2013. Games – 16 AL Games – 7 NL Games – 8 IL Games – 1 American League Games (7): Tampa Bay Rays (59-41) @ Boston Red Sox (60-41) – 7:10 pm The Rays won a very close game one yesterday in large part because of their pitching staff. The Rays shutout the Boston Red Sox, who lead all of baseball in runs scored. Tampa Bay’s impressive pitching continues with Roberto Hernandez (5-10, 4.90) taking on Jon Lester (8-6, 4.58). Surprisingly, the pitching match up does not favor Tampa Bay for a change. Lester was originally scheduled to start the final game against New York, but was bumped back to today. This is a huge game that could see a change in the AL East standings when it’s all said and done. Hernandez will have to pitch an outstanding game for the Rays to take game two from Boston. Series score: TMB 1-0 New York Yankees (52-47) @ Texas Rangers (55-44) – 8:05 pm The Yankees have been losing tough, close games late...

Athletics' Yoenis Cespedes likely out until at least Wednesday

The Oakland Athletics were once again without outfielder Yoenis Cespedes yesterday as he continues to be hampered by a left wrist injury. Manager Bob Melvin indicated to reporters -- including Jane Lee of MLB.com -- that Cespedes' chances of playing today are slim, making a Wednesday or Thursday return to the lineup more likely for the slugger. Still, Melvin didn't rule...

Athletics likely to be without Yoenis Cespedes today

The Oakland Athletics have been without outfielder Yoenis Cespedes since the start of the second half of the season. There was hope that he would rejoin the A's today, but manager Bob Melvin indicated that the slugger's absence could extend into the new week, according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com. Cespedes was out for the third consecutive game Sunday due to his sore...

Athletics 4, Astros 3

There was only one word to describe Oakland's play through four innings on Monday night against the Houston Astros. ''Ugly,'' player after player and manager Bob Melvin said. As ugly as the start was, the Athletics managed to put it behind them and rallied for a 4-3 win. Josh Reddick put Oakland on top with a two-run homer in the eighth inning and the Athletics...

Athletics' Brett Anderson 'amped up' after first bullpen session

You'll have to forgive Brett Anderson if he feels like jumping off the walls after Monday's 35-pitch bullpen session. A stress fracture in his right foot, has sidelined much of his 2013 campaign and truncated a fourth consecutive season for the often-injured lefty. Confined to a walking boot for much of the last two months, the southpaw last appeared in action on April...

Coco Crisp's two-run homer lifts A's past Astros 4-3

The A's wound up making a lot of hard contact this week in Minute Maid Field particularly in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Astros that saw Coco Crisp deliver a two-run homer in the seventh inning to win it. On Monday Josh Reddick hit a game-winning two-run homer in the eighth. On Tuesday Brandon Moss hit a two-run go-ahead homer in the eighth although the A's bullpen...

Astros beat A’s for first time with wild win

It wasn’t a near-no hitter. But it was just as promising. Making his first start at Minute Maid Park, League City native Jarred Cosart threw seven confident and sharp innings Tuesday during the Astros’ 5-4 come-from-behind victory against the Oakland A’s in an American League West matchup before an announced crowd of 32,249. Cosart struggled with his command during the initial...

NMATV gives us Braun neck injections, A-Rod taking a phallus, Cruz awkward face, Colon winning steroids

We’re all familiar with NMATV by now, right? Well, they threw their hat in the ring on the Biogenesis case, and it’s gonna be useful, I predict. Well, the GIFS are. Ryan Braun with the sneaky neck injection and orgasm face. Alex Rodriguez with the little used/known anal injection with a look of satisfaaction. Nelson Cruz’s bat explodes and he exits slowly. Bartolo Colon...

Balfour’s Blown Save, Shoddy Defense Doom A’s in 5-4 Loss to Astros

Tuesday night’s game between the Oakland A’s and Houston Astros seemed almost destined to become the A’s first loss to Houston on the season – and that’s what happened, as the Astros pulled out a 5-4 win in the bottom of the ninth, ending Grant Balfour’s consecutive saves streak in the process. Against rookie Jarred Cosart, the A’s picked up a run in the first thanks...

Series Preview: Oakland A’s (57-41) at Houston Astros (33-64)

The Oakland A’s will open a three-game series in Houston against the Astros tonight at 5:10 PDT. Oakland has enjoyed playing its new division rivals in 2013, taking the first nine meetings between the two clubs. Houston, at 33-64 after Sunday’s loss, enters the series scuffling, having lost eight of their past ten games. They were swept over the weekend by the Seattle Mariners...

There's Been a Brian Wilson Sighting

Not since Brian Wilson and fellow free agent Dallas Braden hit the "Happiest Place on Earth" has anyone seen the bearded one. Well...stop the presses.  There's been a sighting. According to "sources" (we'll call them ESPN The Magazine and San Jose Mercury News), the former San Francisco closer was back in the city by the bay throwing pitches this...

Bartolo Colon’s Gem, Angels’ Sloppy Defense Spark A’s 6-0 Win

A day after being dominated by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and C.J. Wilson, the Oakland A’s returned the favor on Sunday afternoon behind a complete game shutout from All-Star Bartolo Colon. Matched up against Jerome Williams, Colon was easily the star of the day, mixing his fastballs and occasional off-speed pitches with authority en route to his 13th win of the season....
