The Philadelphia Phillies added some pitching depth by signing right hander Joel Pineiro to a minor league contract. Pineiro has struggled with shoulder issues and had an inflated 5.13 ERA last season with the Angels as he finished up a 2 year $16 million deal.If healthy Pineiro could help the team. But considering the depth the Phillies have in their starting rotation, one would think he has little to no shot at making the team. The Phillies have Joe Blanton and Kyle Kendrick already vying for the number 5 spot in the rotation while Dontrelle Willis, signed to be a reliever, could get a look if he impresses. Hard to believe Pineiro will get more than a look. The real question though is why the Phillies continue to sign starting pitchers when the team really needs depth in the bullpen. They should have been more aggressive with Kerry Wood and now with perhaps Joel Zumaya. Instead, they signed an additional starting pitcher with a bad shoulder.Get all of your MLB news, rumors, and dis...
