Nationals-pitcher-stephen
For some strong words from noted medical experts Jake Peavy and Jeff Francouer on the Nats possibly shutting Stephen Strasburg down next month, head over to this piece from USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. A sampling: “I don’t want to put words in their mouth what their veterans are thinking, but it would be very hard for me as a veteran player to accept that. It would just blow my mind thinking that the Nationals are going to the playoffs and Stephen Strasburg not being part of it? He’s arguably the best pitcher in the game. Don’t you want to seize the moment?” “For me, you win as many damn games as you can, whenever you can. If that’s Stephen Strasburg throwing 200 innings, so what? Cole Hamels pitched 262 innings (at 25, in 2008) the year the Phillies won the World Series.” There’s more where that came from, if you can handle the knuckle-dragging. Here's Stephen Strasburg promoting Washington Humane Society Adoptions

Up above: video of Stephen Strasburg supporting Washington Human Society Adoptions. Great cause, and Stras is much more effective here than he is as a car salesman, that's for sure. Befriend Nats Enquirer on Facebook. Follow on Twitter.

Gio Gonzalez hits first HR, throws complete game win, earns shaving cream pie

And so, Edwin Jackson delivered a shaving cream pie to the face of Gio Gonzalez during Gio's postgame interview with MASN's Kristina Akra. Gio not only threw a complete game for the win (a huge lift to a completely gassed bullpen), but also got a bubblegum shower upon his return to the dugout after his first career home run. Pretty nice little Tuesday for Nat Gio. More...

Of course these kids traded Gio Gonzalez's first career HR ball for two Bryce Harper autographed baseballs

Thanks to the magic of Kristina Akra on MASN last night, we learned that some kids ended up with Gio Gonzalez's first career home run ball, then traded it for a couple of baseballs autographed by Bryce Harper. Of course they did. And here's the guy who almost threw Gio's HR ball back onto the field; thankfully he gave it to the kids. (Screen caps via MASN/MLB...

D-backs return home on a high note

It's been an up-and-down second half of the season for Washington's Stephen Strasburg, but the hard-throwing right-hander believes he's figuring out what it takes to excel in the majors. Strasburg tries to build on a strong outing and help the NL East-leading Nationals win seven straight games for the first time in more than a year in Friday night's series opener...

Washington Nationals pitcher Tyler Clippard falls off mound during pitch

As it has been previously noted here on Laugh At Sports, we love it when Major League Baseball players take a tumble during games.During Monday night's Houston Astros/Washington Nationals affair, Nationals closer Tyler Clippard was trying to shut the door on a Houston comeback. As he prepared to fire a pitch to Houston's Matt Downs, Tyler had a little bit of problems with...

Nats Talk On The Go: Episode 30

The Washington Nationals just finished a game with one of the most bizarre endings you'll ever see against the Houston Astros, and there's a lot to talk about. We hit the Kurt Suzuki trade and its affect on the team and the pitching staff, the Cesar Izturis signing, Tyler Clippard's recent struggles, and Ross Detwiler's continued improvement. Craig also happily admits...

Nationals 3, Astros 2(12)

Danny Espinosa hit a two-run homer early, and his RBI single in the 12th inning lifted the Washington Nationals to a 3-2 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night. Michael Morse was 0 for 4 when he doubled to start the 12th inning and extend his career-high hitting streak to 16 games. He was replaced by pinch-runner Cesar Izturis, who was making his first appearance for Washington...

Angel Hernandez loves Bryce Harper, you just wouldn't know it from his strike zone

So what happened in the sixth inning last night, with Bryce Harper at the plate with the bases loaded, two outs, and a 3-0 count? Just umpire Angel Hernandez being Angel Hernandez, inserting himself into the game yet again by calling three straight balls, strikes, against Harper. Angel's strike zone was all over the place all night long (at one point it was even spotted getting...

Video: Watch the Astros become the Bad News Bears

Relive the magic of the 11th inning of Monday's Nats-Astros game, when Kurt Suzuki bunted, two Astros collided, another Astro dove over the pile, someone threw the ball away into right field, Roger Bernadina ran through Bo Porter's stop sign, another Astro airmailed the throw to the plate, Bernadina scored (the game winning run), and Suzuki ended up on third base. On a...

Ankiel returns as an outfielder and Doby plays Thompson on This Day in Baseball

August 9, 2007, marks another performance enhanced historical moment when Rick Ankiel made a dramatic return to the St. Louis Cardinals. In his first big league game in three years, Ankiel – a former pitcher – batted second and played right field. After going 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts, Ankiel hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning to propel the Cardinals to a 5-0...

Game Picks - Friday: August 10, 2012

The Thursday afternoon games went 4-0 yesterday as the Yankees, Rays, Cardinals and Mets all won as expected. R.A. Dickey might make that Strasburg post moot if he keeps pitching like that! And Matt Moore would be a Rookie of the Year candidate if it weren't for a certain Angels outfielder. But after a wonderful start to the day, the night games limped in at 1-4 to leave...
