Over the course of a 162 game schedule, the cream will always rise to the top in Major League Baseball. With one half of the season over some of that cream is sitting right on top and ready to stay there. One of those teams is the New York Yankees. It was only a matter of time before the Yankees were going to hit their stride and boy did they hit it in June, going 20-7 for the month. They currently hold the best record in all of baseball, going 52-33 in the 1st half. They sit atop ESPN‘s power rankings right above the other team who has 52 wins, the Texas Rangers, who come it at #2.

With Albert Pujols starting to hit the ball and with two of the best young players in the league in Mike Trout and Mark Trumbo, the Los Angelos Angels are primed to make some noise in the second half and currently sit at #4 in ESPN’s rankings. Rounding out the top five are two surprise teams from the NL, the Washington Nationals at #2 and the Pittsburgh Pirates at #5. Some analysts were projecting the Nationals to be in the pennant race this year, but the Pirates came out of nowhere. We’ll see if they can hold onto that top spot in the NL Central and get back to the playoffs for the first time in 19 seasons. Check out the complete ESPN rankings below:
