Chicago White Sox
(via CardinalsFarm.com) Buy low and sell high, right? Isn’t that a basic investment model? Isn’t the farm system and organization somewhat of an investment? I am going to throw out an idea that may be unpopular for many St. Louis Cardinals fans, but it is at least worth a listen.
The current market in baseball appears to be a seller’s market. With the unfortunate injury to Tim Hudson, the Braves could now join in the chase to gain rotation help. So far, the Rangers have been the only team to make a splash in the starting pitcher’s market with their deal with the Cubs. Acquiring Matt Garza (a free agent at the end of the season) cost Texas 5 prospects in total.
Mike Olt preseason rated #22 and organization #2
Justin Grimm preseason organization rated #5
C.J. Edwards posted a 1.83 ERA at class A in 93.1 IP
The 4th and 5th players are to be named later
Not a bad return.
Garza at the time posted a 3.14 ERA in 71 IP for the Chicago Cubs
With Garza now off the market, the pickings for ...

On Tuesday the Chicago Cubs traded staff ace Matt Garza away to the Texas Rangers for a four prospect package. The deal was long in the making, as the Cubs were expected to trade Garza last year, but he was injured just before the deadline. After not really getting all that they wanted from last year’s deadline, the Cubs entered this year looking to trade him again. There were...
Two days ago, Matt Garza packed up in Chicago and headed to Texas. Tonight, he took the mound for the first time in a Rangers uniform to face the Yankees.
The first inning was a little rough as the first two batters reached base. One even advanced to third. But Garza escaped that frame without too much damage and pitched into the 8th. He wasn’t quite so lucky in the 6th when...
Another season, another year in which the Texas Rangers are in desperate need for pitching prior to the trade deadline. The target this time--Chicago Cubs ace Matt Garze--and as could be expected the Rangers got their man.
But would be be worth it?

Wednesday night against the Yankees, in his first start with the Rangers (a 3-1 win), he should...
If for some reason anyone was waffling as to whether Matt Garza is a fierce competitor he delivered an intense postgame news conference Wednesday night to close his case.
“I hate losing” Garza said. “It’s not fun. Who wants to come here and lose? I think everyone at this level has that edge. I’m just a little more showy about it than other people. That’s just my mentality...
On Monday, the Rangers gave up a pretty hefty haul to acquire the rights to Matt Garza. With so many teams out of the race not selling, the prices that the few teams giving up talent can charge is very high, and so despite Garza’s impending free agency, the Cubs did very well in their return for a few months of a good-not-great pitcher. With Garza off the market, the teams hunting...
The Texas Rangers landed Matt Garza earlier this week from the Chicago Cubs, but the team appears to be far from done adding to its current roster. With outfielder Nelson Cruz potentially facing a suspension for his connection to the Biogenesis scandal, the Rangers are looking to add at least one bat and possibly more.
The player who has been most closely connected to the Rangers...
Matt Garza pitched into the eighth inning of his Rangers debut, the only run he allowed unearned after his throwing error, and Texas beat the New York Yankees 3-1 on Wednesday night.
Garza (1-0) was 6-1 in his 11 starts this season for the Chicago Cubs before being traded Monday to the Rangers, who had long coveted the right-hander. He was 5-0 with a 1.24 ERA his last six starts...
Or rather, Matt Garza goes…to the Rangers. From what I’ve seen of it, it seems like a pretty fair trade. I like the idea of Mike Olt at third and CJ Edwards has some potential by all accounts. Justin Grimm appears to have been at least a decent starter for the Rangers. I just don’t know how I feel about losing Garza. In my eyes, he’s been a great starter for us and very solid...
After acquiring Matt Garza from the Cubs, the Texas Rangers are now eyeing some hitters to upgrade their offense. The Rangers are usually known for their hitting, but have had a down year in terms of scoring runs. With a Nelson Cruz suspension looming, the Rangers are trying to act fast and get an upgrade in their outfield.
Three hitters that the Rangers are eyeing are Giants...
It is 7-1, Kluber is pitching well as usual, the Tribe seems to be rolling, winning a very important first game of the series. This is exactly the shot in the arm they needed, a big win making it two in a row, and then all of the sudden it happened. The Tribe had to go to the bullpen.
Yes they had a four run lead with three innings to play, and yes it was against a middle of the...
Well, the first hot commodity is off the market – Matt Garza is property of the Texas Rangers, at least for the rest of this season. Garza was sent to Texas in exchange for P Justin Grimm, IF Mike Olt, P C.J. Edwards and either 1 or 2 players to be named later. His trade to the Rangers should only be the first of many moves over the next week and a half.More teams feel that...
Tribe notes heading into the weekend series with the Texas Rangers:
1. It is a good thing that the Indians won’t see the newly acquired Matt Garza over the weekend. Not just because he is pitching well, but because we can be spared from hearing from the “I told you so” crowd if he came into Progressive Field and dominated. I wrote about this earlier in the week, but if the...
Andy Pettitte (7-7, 4.47 ERA) is on the mound in game three of the four in Arlington and takes on the new addition to the Rangers Matt Garza. The last seven starts have been frustrating for Pettitte, he has gone 2-4 with a 5.40 ERA, and opponents have hit .311 against him after a beautiful outing on June 8 at Seattle. Most troubling of all for Pettitte is that he feels completely...
One of the most intriguing teams over the next few weeks will be the Chicago Cubs. It will not necessarily be for wins and losses out on the field, but what they may or may not do in the front office. The team better have unlimited phone minutes as the Cubs may lead the league in trades this year and bolstering several teams around the league along the way.
The Cubs have already...
