Found September 01, 2013 on Mets Merized Online:
Call me crazy, but… I’ve been thinking about the Mets upcoming offseason and wondering what the team will do to improve. They have two problems to address: 1. Not enough impact position players on the team, particularly in the power department. 2. Recapturing the interest of fans, or in other words, convincing fans that the team isn’t “all talk and no action.” Most of the free agent options discussed have drawbacks: Jacoby Ellsbury has an injury history, varied production with not much power except for one year, plays a position that we actually have a decent option at, and Boras as an agent. Shin-Soo Choo isn´t as high profile, but has great OBP skills and had decent speed. He is a strong defender in the outfield corners, but has Boras as an agent too. Both of those players may involve the loss of the first round pick if the Mets don’t have one of the Top 10 protected picks. Other players, like Cody Ross, Carlos Beltran, and Curtis Granderson, have bigger questions. One player who...

Dilson Herrera and REAL Mets prospects to watch

In preparation for 2013’s end of season Top 20 Prospect rankings I’ve decided to take a look through the system and create a list of people at each level who currently factor as prospects.  You see, not every player in the Met system is a genuine prospect and of those players who a AAA: Las Vegas Dustin Lawley (25 in April) – Lawley screamed into relevance in 2013 playing...

Dillon Gee Is Pitching For His Job

The Mets know it. We know it. Hell, he knows it too. When people projected the future rotation for 2014 or 2015, Dillon Gee was never the first name that came to mind. Even Jeremy Hefner heard his name tossed around more because of his experience working out of the pen. Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler, Jon Niese, Rafael Montero, Noah Syndergaard, Jenrry Mejia…yeah, those are the names...

Football season approaches, but the Mets continue to give their fans a reason to watch baseball

Without Matt Harvey to start games, Bobby Parnell to close games, and David Wright to help win games, few people would blame New York Mets fans for thanking the football Gods that the NFL is about to kick off and we can get on with online football betting.  At face value, the Mets should be a team that is ready to roll over and play dead as the season winds down, but that’s not...

Mets Minors Moves: Kevin Plawecki and Matt Reynolds Promoted to Binghamton for Playoffs

The Mets have made a few roster moves today (and yesterday, for that matter). Here’s a summary of everything I can see that’s going on: Matt Reynolds and Kevin Plawecki may be done in St. Lucie with the FSL season, but they will get a taste of the Eastern League playoffs with the Binghamton Mets. In 430 at-bats with St. Lucie this season, Reynolds hit .226/.302/.335 with five...

The Odd Couple's Triple Play at Shea Stadium

The New York Mets have a treasure chest of memories, moments, and merriment — Tom Seaver winning the National League Cy Young Award three times, Mr. Met serving as the first three-dimensional mascot for Major League Baseball, and the 1969 Mets performing a baseball miracle by beating the vaunted Baltimore Orioles in the World Series. One of the greatest achievements in Mets history...

Collins Likely To Remain Mets Skipper, Expect Announcement At Season’s End

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York says that lame-duck Mets manager Terry Collins is not facing unemployment. That is not to say his return as Mets manager will be a slam dunk for 2014, but the odds are heavily in his favor. A source familiar with the situation told Rubin, that while team officials do not intend to commit to re-signing Collins until after the season, there is internal...

Mets get 17 hits, rout Nats 11-3

As he nears the end of his rookie season, Mets pitcher Zack Wheeler has talked lately about being tired. On Saturday night, he made the Washington Nationals look listless. Wheeler pitched effectively into the seventh inning and New York piled up a season-high 17 hits in routing the Nationals 11-3. Wheeler (7-3) allowed two runs and five hits in 6 2-3 innings, striking out three...

Mets Minors Moves: Familia in PSL, Black, Lutz, and Byrdak to DC, Carson Back to Vegas

The Mets have made a few roster moves today (and yesterday, for that matter). Here’s a summary of everything I can see that’s going on: New York is still hoping they’ll see Jeurys Familia back in the bullpen before 2013 comes to a close. He took a step closer to doing that today in PSL. He threw an inning for St. Lucie in their season-ending 16-0 blowout victory. He allowed...

September 1st… It’s That Time Of The Year Again…

The morrow was a bright September morn; The earth was beautiful as if newborn; There was nameless splendor everywhere, That wild exhilaration in the air, Which makes the passers in the city street Congratulate each other as they meet. - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Good morning everyone… A few notes as we turn the calendar page from August to September and rosters officially...

This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty: The “Oh, Sandy” Edition

Sometimes I wonder why I even read some Mets related posts on Facebook or Twitter. If you were to gauge the Mets fan base on the way General Manager, Sandy Alderson has run the team, well you would think that this team was based out of Miami. Yes, I realize that the lunatic fringe faction of our fan base ( a small  – yet loud minority) will never be satisfied with Alderson until...

Freeman's HR, 5 RBIs power Braves past Mets 13-5

Freddie Freeman homered, doubled and tied a career high with five RBIs, powering the Atlanta Braves past the New York Mets 13-5 on Monday. Freeman put the Braves ahead with a two-run double off Daisuke Matsuzaka in the first inning. Freeman made it 6-1 with a three-run homer a dozen rows deep into the right-field seats in the second. Jordan Schafer got four hits and stole three...
