I have some tough decisions to make. This weekend was nothing short of a disaster for Met fans. The curse of Turner Field that has seemed to haunt the Mets for over a decade reared its ugly head again as the Braves swept New York in what could bode to be crippling fashion. To make matters worse for those with fantasy ties to the Mets, several key performers over the past few weeks such as David Wright, R.A. Dickey, and David Wright did not live up to their normal standards. Now the Mets will travel back up north to visit the first place Washington Nationals, in which could be the most important series of the season. Here is who I think will have a big series for the Mets against the Nationals, who you should sit for this series, and which Washington player matches up well against New York. Start ‘Em Ruben Tejada: Tejada continues to impress in all aspects of his game. He made several “Rey Ordonez” type plays on the defensive side of the ball against the Braves, but it was with his b...

Jose Who? The Blossoming of Ruben Tejada

I’ve heard the question posed on every sports media outlet for two weeks now: “if you could give out first-half awards, what would they be?”  I’ve heard Andrew McCutcheon’s name countless times for NL MVP of the 1st half, and also our own beloved R.A. Dickey for 1st half NL Cy Young considerations. However, if there were an actual award for most improved player…for...

Will Josh Edgin be a lefty reliever, rather than a LOOGY?

If you asked most people what they disliked most about modern bullpen usage, the most common answer would be managing the game with the idea of maximizing saves for one pitcher. There is no doubt that is a sub-optimal way to do things. But to me there is something even more revolting and that is the idea that it is okay to carry pitchers who regularly have outings where they face...

It’s time for Terry Collins to forgive Ramon Ramirez

Friday night Terry Collins used both Josh Edgin and Ramon Ramirez for 1.1 innings each. Saturday afternoon the Mets used only Edgin. New York used five relievers, including three different pitchers in the decisive eighth inning. Yet Ramirez was not one of them, the bullpen imploded and the Mets lost a toss-up game they really should have won. Ramirez is in the dog house and...

Should Wheeler be an option to replace Gee?

Prior to Saturday night’s 8-7 loss to the Atlanta Braves, New York Mets manager Terry Collins narrowed his options of replacing Dillon Gee to Miguel Batista and Matt Harvey.  Acording to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York: Terry Collins said Chris Young should be fine for Wednesday’s start in Washington, and that the choice for Saturday against the Dodgers is pretty much down to...

Stache Contest: Win A Johan Santana No-Hitter DVD!

Remember that time your friend offered you a ticket to that June 1st, Mets-Cardinals game at Citi Field this year but you couldn’t make because your 2nd cousin twice removed was getting married that same evening? Remember how extremely upset you were when Johan Santana ended up throwing a No-Hitter. the first in Mets history and you not only didnt watch the game on TV or in person...

Mets Drop Tough Game To Nats In Extras, 5-4

Holy hell, what a game. Summary This one tailed into extra innings and had a real playoff atmosphere to it. The biggest flaw of the Mets was exposed AGAIN as the bullpen could not hold down leads in the ninth or tenth inning. This is not a recap I will enjoy writing, but there were positives to take away from this game. It was Jon Niese vs Ross Detwiler in a hell of a pitching duel...

Nationals 5, Mets 4(10)

Pedro Beato threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded in the 10th inning that allowed the winning run to score, and the Washington Nationals rallied for a 5-4 victory after blowing a late lead Tuesday night. The Nationals fell behind twice after leading 2-0 going into the ninth. Mets pinch-hitter Jordany Valdespin hit a three-run homer off closer Tyler Clippard. But Danny Espinosa...

You have to watch tonight’s Bisons game NOW

It’s funny how this stuff works out. Before each season, SNY and the Mets decide which Buffalo Bisons game to air on SNY. If you didn’t know, the Bisons are the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate. So the Bisons play Toledo at home right now. Jason Bay is starting in left field and batting second. But that’s not the big news of the game. I’m sure that most of you have heard of Matt...

Game Preview: Mets @ Braves

The Mets will try to salvage the final game of the series today in Atlanta as Johan Santana takes the hill against Ben Sheets. Santana is 6-5 on the season with a 3.24 ERA over 17 games and 102.2 innings of work. Johan’s last outing was a rough one where he ultimately allowed 7 ER over 4.2 innings of work while having another play step on his calf while Santana was covering first...

Game Preview: Mets @ Nationals

The Mets look to get back on the Wright track (aha!) today as they take on the Nationals in DC. This past weekend was rather disappointing in Atlanta as the Mets got swept, Gee needs to be replaced, Duda got injured, and the bullpen being itself. However, as we all know, winning makes all of that go away, so let’s try winning! Tonight Jon Niese takes on Ross Detwiler. Jon Niese...

Something Needs to Change in This Bullpen…

Tonight, the Met offense provided the bullpen with two opportunities to close out the Nationals, and the bullpen could not do the job in either circumstance and fell to the Nationals 5-4. After Jordany Valdespin hit yet another big homer for the team in the ninth inning to take the lead, Bobby Parnell couldn’t hold the lead.  And then in the 10th after a big two-out hit off of...

Late rally silenced, Marlins shut out by Nats

MIAMI (AP) -- Stephen Strasburg pitched six scoreless innings and drove in a run for the Washington Nationals in a 4-0 win over the Miami Marlins on Sunday. Strasburg (10-4) allowed six hits and struck out seven. Steve Lombardozzi, Michael Morse, and Danny Espinosa also drove in a run for the Nationals. The Marlins were 1 for 13 with runners in scoring position as they were shut...
