They may have lost out on Albert Pujols but there is some good news for St. Louis Cardinals fans. There’s an Opening Day deadline to get an extension done with catcher Yadier Molina and it seems like the two sides are finally making some progress. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the team is now willing to offer a four or five year deal. His agent is hopeful something can now get done.
“We are making progress and hopefully we can work something out,” Molina’s agent, Melvin Roman, said Monday.
Molina, 29, is eligible for free agency at the end of the season. The Cardinals likely are willing to give him a deal of four and possibly five years, sources say. (Ken Rosenthal – FOX Sports)
Rosenthal reports that Molina should get a deal worth about $10 to $12 million annually. That amount doesn’t surprise me one bit and for two reasons.
