Perfection never looked so good

Finally it has happened. After 34 and a half years of Seattle Mariners baseball, one of our own has thrown a perfect game.

Felix Hernandez faced 27 Tampa Bay Rays batters last Wednesday afternoon, and he sent them all back to the dugout without reaching base. Including 12 via the strikeout.

Felix went on to win the AL Player of the Week award for his performance as well. Next up, AL Pitcher of the Month for August, to go along with the one that Jason Vargas won for the month of July.

It’s beginning to feel a lot like 2001 in here isn’t it?

A little to late, but winning baseball is still a lot better than losing baseball no matter what time of year it is.

With that, I give you my top 10!

10: 5 in a row

Starting with last Tuesdays win against the Rays, and concluding with a weekend sweep of the Minnesota Twins, the Mariners won 5 games in a row last week.

I guess this is the time of year to be streaky.

9: Save maser J

No, he’s probably not going to be taking over for the Bartender anytime soon, but on Sunday Josh Kinney recorded his very first MLB save.

Going 2 1/3 innings, he worked the required amount for the lead that the M’s had, and ended up with save number 1.

The King; Felix Hernandez

8: Smoak back up

With the recent injury to Franklin, err, I mean Mike Carp, the M’s were in a bit of a pickle at first base.

They were left with no 1b’s on the roster, with the exception of John Jaso, but he’s been the man behind the plate recently, so they were forced to call up perennial underachiever Justin Smoak back to the big league club.

Maybe he was the good luck charm that Felix needed.

One things for sure, he looked happy to be back in Seattle.

7: Finally!

Speaking of injuries, M’s center fielder Franklin Gutierrez is finally ready to start his rehab assingment in Tacoma.

Don’t hold your breath Mariners fans.

6: Halman out of prison

Everybody remembers the late Greg Halman right?

Well his brother Jason has been released from prison, where he has been since being charged with manslaughter, when he took his own brothers life.

The justice system, even in other parts of the world, is unjust. It’s a fact that we all will have to face in one facet of our life or another.

This is just another case of the lawyers being able to work the system and find the loop holes to free their client.

The Halman family has been granted a serious blow of injustice on this one.

5: Home field dominance

But something has changed. We are now 12-1 in our last 13 home games.

I don’t know exactly what is going on here, but I like it!

4: Who gets the call?

So far Eric Wedge is being quiet on the topic of September call ups, but if I were a betting man, Alex Liddi and Danny Hultzen will be on that list.

3: Ja-Ja-Ja-Jaso

The move for John Jaso this offseason has really been the move of the year.

Week after week this guy is proving that he belongs behind the plate as the catcher in charge until Mike Zunino is ready to take over the reigns.

Another walk off hit this past weekend over the Twins has cemented him into the go to guy role for the M’s of late.

2: Supreme Court

In honor of the single greatest outing by a Mariner pitcher, the folks at Safeco are opening up the rest of the seats for the weekly King’s Court, and calling it the Supreme Court.

The first 34,000 fans on hand will receive a King of Perfection shirt, and a K card.

This will be the wildest King’s Court of them all!

1: Perfection

King Felix Hernandez went the distance yet again.

Pitching the 23rd perfect game in MLB history, and upping his stakes for another Cy Young Award this offseason.

For more on this, check out this weeks My oh My segment for video and analysis of the perfect game.

There you have it kids, another week in the books, and what a week it was. 5 wins, some late inning heroics, and a perfect game.

It just doesn’t get any better than this.
