ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Boston Red Sox got their second half started with a stout pitching performance from a left-hander who wasn't in the rotation a month ago. Franklin Morales, who moved over from the bullpen June 17, pitched five shutout innings as Boston beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 3-1, Friday night at Tropicana Field. David Ortiz also hit his 23rd home run for Boston. The Red Sox, who dropped six of their final seven games before the break, also got three hits, two RBI and a stolen base from Pedro Ciriaco, the little-known, 27-year-old, fill-in for injured Dustin Pedroia who is hitting .625 in four starts. "It's nice," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said. "You wait four days and you have a sour taste, and it tastes a little better. Knowing (David) Price is going tomorrow and (James) Shields the next day (for Tampa Bay), it's good to get that one today."
