ANAHEIM, Calif. Kendrys Morales hasn't played in the field for more than two years, but the Angels' designated hitter will get a couple of starts at first base on the team's upcoming road trip. Manager Mike Scioscia said he wants to keep Morales' bat in the lineup rather than have him sit for six games against the Colorado Rockies and Dodgers. He said Morales will probably get two starts on the trip with Albert Pujols switching to third. Morales last played defense in May 2010 when he suffered a broken ankle jumping on home plate after hitting a walk-off home run against the Seattle Mariners. A second surgery last May to clean out scar tissue in the ankle joint kept him out all of 2011. Morales has been working out at first base during batting practice this season and took ground balls there Wednesday afternoon. Pujols has played third base infrequently in his career but was used there once this season when the Angels played a 12-inning game in San Diego against ...

Angels use four of first seven picks on pitchers

The Angels swung into action on the second day of the baseball draft Tuesday, using their top pick and the 114th overall selection on R.J. Alvarez, a right-handed reliever from Florida Atlantic University. The Angels surrendered their first- and second-round picks as compensation for signing free agents Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson, and they didnt make their first pick until...

Christmas Comes in December, Not June

By David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer Angels fans, listen up: Be prepared to hear some Angels organizational bashing by the so-called experts over the next two months as every other organizations announce the signing of their latest high-round picks. Don’t believe it. Not a word. Over the next two months, almost every other organization will get a lot of free press...

Trumbo rebounds from worst game to his best

ANAHEIM, Calif. Like any good professional hitter, Mark Trumbo walked out of Angel Stadium late Monday night and wiped away an awful game from his memory. Except for one thing. He remembered to watch some video. Hitters don't like to dwell on bad games, and Trumbo had a bad one: 0 for 5 with four strikeouts. Tuesday night, in what can only be considered an immediate and impressive...

Scioscia not prepared to bump Santana from rotation

Garrett Richards nearly pitched his way into the Los Angeles Angels' rotation this spring, losing out to the more experienced Jerome Williams for the fifth starter's spot. Given a second chance to make an impression when Jered Weaver went on the disabled list last week, Richards was outstanding against the Mariners on Tuesday night. He allowed just one run on four hits...

Looking Forward: Los Angeles Angels Starting Catcher of 2013

This has been quite the rollercoaster of a season so far, we've experienced some of the lowest lows this team has ever went through in the first months of the season, yet at the same time there have been some pretty good highs. While there have been many things going wrong with this team early on that managed to sort themselves out fairly quickly, such as the bullpen issues and...

Game Recap 6/5/12: An Heir to the Throne - Angels 6 Mariners 1

Pretty fancy shmancy game by the Halo's today. Trumbo bounced back from his horrible 4 strikeout game yesterday with two big blasts, funny timing with those homeruns as Robinson Cano was recently named AL home run derby captain. Trumbo is the kind of guy to make statements about his playing ability, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him playing himself into not only the...

Being Mark Trumbo

It’s hard to think about the Angels without considering Mark Trumbo, nowadays.  He’s pretty much put himself front and center, although he belongs in right and has carved out that territory.  Sorry, Torii, we still love you.  Recently, I was listening in on some audio as Trumbo tried to explain how one day he could have the worst professional day of his life and then go...

Angels Draft Strategy: Play for the Short Term, Build for the Long Term

By Robert Cunningham - AngelsWin.com Columnist As the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft has unfolded I have followed the AngelsWin.com thread, “The Official 2012 Amateur Draft Thread”, and have seen several comments expressing some surprise at the type of choices that our front office has made and continues to make. However these draft choices don’t particularly surprise me and...

Angels 6, Mariners 1

Mark Trumbo homered twice, going 4 for 4 with four RBIs, and Garrett Richards pitched seven innings for his first major league victory, leading the Los Angeles Angels to a 6-1 win over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night. Torii Hunter also went deep to back Richards (1-0), who allowed a run and four hits, walked two and struck out eight against an offense that averaged 9.2 runs...

Trumbo Is Superman

It’s hard not to think about the Angels without considering Mark Trumbo.  He’s pretty much put himself front and center, although he belongs in right. Sorry Tori.  Yesterday I was listening in on some audio as Trumbo tried to explain how one day he could have the worst professional day of his life and then go four for four the next day, which could have made him a little crazy...

Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Trout Continues To Impress, Parker Flirts With No-No

Mike Trout (credits below) It was a really slow night in baseball but let's get at it anyways. As many of you might already know from the feature piece I wrote a few weeks back on Allen Craig, I've got a serious man crush on this guy.  In just the third game back from the DL Craig went 2-for-3 from the plate and knocked one out of the park, along with three RBI.  With...

Uh Oh. Cardinals Draft Is Raising Red Flags

Uh oh. Earlier in the week we told you about the Cardinals decision to draft Tim Tebow Jr. on the first day. In short: average arm, average speed, average bat, selected in premium position… BUT JESUS!The MLB draft is a long, torturous process, though. Days of drafting, not only the future MLB stars, but players that will fill rosters of hundreds of teams across the country from...
