Baron Brown, 28, hit .367 (36-98) with two home runs, 13 doubles and 27 RBI in 25 games for Las Vegas.  His 13 doubles lead the PCL.  He was riding an 11-game hitting streak, dating to April 18, during which he hit .391 (18-46) with 16 RBI and five multi-hit games. Brown appeared in 46 games last season with Colorado, hitting .232 (26-112) with five home runs and 11 RBI.  His only other major league action came in 2011 with St. Louis, where he hit .182 (4-22) in 11 games.  He is a .224 (30-134) career hitter in 57 big league games. Cowgill hit .157 (8-51) with two home runs and eight RBI in 19 games for the Mets.” In his debut for the team on Friday Brown went 0-3 with a K, but hopefully better things are on the horizon.  Recently called up 24-year-old Juan Lagares has struggled mightily at the plate with just 1 hit in 15 at bats (.067 avg) and the team can certainly use some depth behind Lucas Duda, Mike Baxter, Marlon Byrd, and Jordanny Valdespin. On the other side of the ball, while the bullpen has been performing well of late and Jeurys Familia seems to auditioning for a possible late inning role with the team, former closer Frank Francisco continues to rehab his right elbow and could be set to return soon. #bbpBox_331247227639062529 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_331247227639062529 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Heard Frank Francisco’s velocity in Florida State League today was pretty good — 93-94 mph. #mets May 5, 2013 11:21 pm via EchofonReplyRetweetFavorite @AdamRubinESPN Adam Rubin The Mets don’t seem to have any intention of letting Francisco take over 9th inning duties from Bobby Parnell, who has run a way with the job by posting an impressive 1.38 ERA and 0.62 WHIP over his 13 appearances this season.  No matter what your baseball wagering strategy is, gambling on getting any real contribution from Francisco at this point seems like a losing proposition, but lately that is the most likely outcome when you gamble on New York.  The Franky Frank signing has been a complete disaster but it would be nice to see him return and pitch well near the All-Star break with an eye towards some bulllpen-needy team maybe throwing the Mets a bone to obtain his services around the trade deadline.
