FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) -- Justin Morneau continued his recent resurgence at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a two-run home run in the Minnesota Twins' 11-7 win over the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday.
Morneau has spent time at designated hitter the last week, trying to recapture his swing. He's also left the door open for a permanent shift away from first base. It's working. The former American League MVP is 7 for 14 his last four games with a double and three home runs after a slow spring start.
The outburst came at the expense of Phillies starter Vance Worley, who gave up 11 runs -- five earned -- on 11 hits in four innings.
Francisco Liriano gave up two runs on eight hits in four innings for Minnesota. Luke Hughes, one of the infielders vying for a spot and waiting to see where Morneau plays, went 2 for 4 with a three-run home run, his team-leading fifth.
Hector Luna went 3 for 5 with a home run for Philadelphia.

The Minnesota Twins released injured right-hander Joel Zumaya on Wednesday to make room on their 40-man roster.
Zumaya was trying to revive his career after missing the 2011 season because of elbow problems, but the hard-throwing reliever hurt the joint again during his first bullpen session of spring training with his new team, tearing the ulnar collateral ligament. Zumaya was...

Juan Pierre is in.Let’s start with the big news: Juan Pierre is on the 40-man roster, officially, according to the Phillies (thanks to the beats down in Clearwater).Pierre being on the club does not preclude Scott Podsenik from being on the roster, as well. Phillies GM Benny Looper told us on 97.3 ESPN FM just minutes ago that both men could be on the team on opening day depending...
Phillies outfielder wants your help picking a new song to walk to home plate this year.
This year Hunter Pence is looking for a new song, when walking up to the plate. Last year, he came to the plate to the tune of country star Jason Aldean’s “Dirt Road Anthem”. Pence is looking for something with a little swag but some rock and roll. We selected a few songs that we think...
The Minnesota Twins officially released injured pitcher Joel Zumaya on Wednesday. Zumaya was already going to miss the entire 2012 season after suffering a season-ending elbow injury in spring training.
The Twins acquired Zumaya this offseason with the hope that he could be a valid right-handed option in the late innings to compliment left-handed setup man Glen Perkins and closer...
Philadelphia Phillies logo.
The Philadelphia Phillies have been a force in Major League Baseball, winning 102 games in 2011.
Over the past five years the Phillies have built a résumé that includes NL East champs five times; 2008 World Series Champs, almost repeating again in 2009; and played in the NLDS the last two seasons.
This ball-club is a perennial favorite and has been...
CutsThe Phils sent Brian Sanches, Scott Elarton and lefty reliever Jake Diekman down to the farm. The first two guys I could give two shakes about, because I don't follow the FeHams closely and we are unlikely to see them in Philly anytime soon. Diekman, on the other hand, might be back in town sooner rather than later. As meaningless as Spring Training stats are, Diekman still...
Corey Seidman joined 1050 ESPN Radio in Williamsport earlier this week to talk Phillies with host Trevor Turner. They mostly focused on Chase Utley’s injury and its implications on the team, but also delved into Domonic Brown’s prospects for playing this year and Ryan Madson’s unfortunate turn of events.
The Minnesota Twins scored four runs off Japanese left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada and held the Baltimore Orioles hitless until the eighth inning in a 5-0 exhibition victory Tuesday.
Making his first start since being signed in the offseason as a free agent, Wada was pulled after three innings because of a high pitch count. He threw 62 pitches, including 30 in a three-run second.
We Should Be GMs has been in existence for 6 years. This blog was created on March 28, 2006 and is still kickin' mad flava in ya ear! We're about to embark on our 7th season of Philadelphia Phillies baseball. We'd like to thank all our loyal readers and even those bastards that only stop by on occasion. Please take the time in the comment section to tell us how awesome...
Luna and Podsednik are vying for a spot. Not the way Vance Worley wants to wind down his spring. It’s been up and down and this last start represents the lowest depths possible.Worley pitched four innings giving up 11 runs, six earned, in the Phillies 11-7 loss to Minnesota. Now, again, how much stock do you put in a spring training game? If you put a lot in what is likely to be...
