There was an old joke about oldtime songwriter Steve Allen it dates back a bit, but stay with me. Basically, two guys are talking about great songwriters and the first guys says, "Steve Allen's pretty good. He's written hundreds of songs." The other guy, without a beat, says, "Really? Name two." For all I know, Nickelback may be a pretty good band, but when it comes to their hit songs or any of their songs, for that matter I say, "Really? Name two." I cannot. Now I have no beef with the Canadian quartet. To borrow the words of countryman and a legendary songwriter, Neil Young, long may you run. I know Braves reliever Peter Moylan a little better we're not tight, but I could pick him out of a lineup and he could bust my chops by not returning the favor and forcing me spend the night in the tank. He's a smart guy with an interesting sense of humor. It's part of what has made him a Twitter sensation. Seeing the headline about a "Twitter war" between the Braves' free-spirited Australian (am I being redundant?) reliever and the Canadian pop band, I couldn't help but think, "This could be fun." Moylan fired the first shot, with this zinger at the band and lead vocalist Chad Kroeger: "Note to Nickelback please attend a Foo Fighters concert. That's how's it should be done chad." Moylan, known for being a groundball pitcher, showed he could deliver a little chin music as well. A hitter's best revenge is to get up, dust himself off then get a hit a line drive back through the box or a home run is ideal, but any kind of hit will do. More often, however, what follows is an aggravated hitter taking a big swing, and topping the ball back to the pitcher, who gloves it with ease, pounds the ball in his glove, crow-hops toward first, maybe twice, watches the batter run to first then lofts the ball over in plenty of time for the out. The more frequent result seems to be what happened when Nickelback took its hefty swing at Twitter revenge. Here's the reply: "Foos are killer for sure. We're doing just fine too thanks. ? for you Pete, is watching Kimbrel better from the bench or on TV?" I understand the intent Kimbrel closes, you don't. Of course, by the time Craig Kimbrel is in the game, Moylan has already done his job. So the question comes off more like is it more fun to watch Craig Kimbrel pitch before or after you've done your job and hit the showers. Not really too stinging, is it? Not only did they ground back to the pitcher, but they broke their favorite bat and split their pants running down to first. I guess it's hard to really be cutting in 140 characters although Moylan managed. The latest and we can only hope the final chapter of this pseudo-feud came from Nickelback, evidently just to set the record straight. "There is no beef w @PeterMoyan. We both took shots. We didn't take it seriously. To each their own. No harm meant, all the best to him." Thanks for filling everyone in and letting us know YOU have moved on. Moylan and everyone else evidently have and now I can, too.
