A statue of ''Mr. Cub'' that normally sits outside the main entrance to Wrigley Field has been hauled to Peoria for an off-season makeover. The bronzed likeness of Chicago Cubs legend Ernie Banks had been outside Wrigley Field since March 2008. But artist Lou Cella tells the (Peoria) Journal Star ( that the statue he created was turning green. ''It was oxidizing a little too fast, and the Cubs didn't want it to,'' he said. The 400-pound bronze figure was trucked to Bradley University earlier this month - covered up for the ride so it wouldn't attract attention, said artist Kyle Chipman, who is working with Cella to clean up the statue. The statue's old finish was burned off with a torch, sandblasted and degreased before getting a chemical coating to change the appearance of its surface.
