What does one of 23 perfect games in the history of baseball get you?  If your name is Philip Humber, it’s waivers.  The Chicago White Sox placed Humber on waivers and he was quickly claimed by the first team to have the option, the Houston Astros.  The move makes sense, as Humber pitched in Houston for the Rice Owls on their 2003 National Championship team and is from nearby Nacogdoches, Texas.  And he’s a bargain, as the Astros secured his services for $800,000 1-year.  The Astros are desperate for rotation candidates, and to get a live body with some major league experience makes a lot of sense.  The Astros retain a club option for the next year for $3M, or can pay him $50K to walk.  This is a deal that has good upside potential for the Astros, if you can get 30 starts and 10 wins out of him for that price, you’ll take it on your struggling club.  And with the option year and pitching at home, Humber should be looking to prove himself.  And he’s only 29. -Dave (@lhd_on_sports) The post Mr Perfect goes back to Houston appeared first on Reading Between The Seams.
