PLAYERS: David Ortiz
TEAMS: Boston Red Sox

Via The Other Paper:

Back on April 20, while addressing the crowd at Fenway Park's first home game after the Boston Marathon Bombing, Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz delivered a memorable quote — emphasized with the now-famous words, "this is our f------ city!" And to help raise money for the One Fund Boston charity, Big Papi is using those same words to raise money for the victims of the attack by putting them on a baseball bat.

Ortiz's quick pregame speech in the midst of a Boston tribute that came in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing made headlines when he used the F-word.

And now, anyone can buy a bat with that phrase emblazoned on the inside of the barrel available at big papi.com.

If you prefer "Nobody's going to dictate our freedom" to the "this is our f------ city" quote, you have an option to pick the former. But it sounds like the cool thing will be choosing the R-rated version.

The Red Sox designated hitter announced that in conjunction with Marucci Sports he'll be selling customized bats, and 100 percent of the net proceeds will be donated to the One Fund Boston and other sources of victim support.

Big Papi went just 1-for-4 in his return to the lineup on Tuesday, but that one hit...

David Ortiz Finds Simple Solution to Red Sox’ Offensive Woes, But It Isn’t Easy One (Video)

Don’t ever confuse “simple” with “easy,” especially when it comes to baseball. David Ortiz found a simple solution to help the Red Sox drive in more runners in scoring position, but it was anything but easy. Big Papi’s first-inning jolt got the Sox moving in the right direction against Matt Moore and the Rays, but now it’s up to the rest of the offense to continue finding...

Big Papi adding injury to insults

Sam Galanis Contributing Writer Criticism from the media doesn’t affect the way David Ortiz plays. A sore oblique, however, is a different story. And Big Papi revealed last night that that’s the reason for his week-long slump. John Farrell Aware of David Ortiz Injury, Slugger Anticipates Return to Pre-Injury Form Soon (Video)

David Ortiz didn’t look like an injured man in the first inning of Tuesday’s Red Sox-Rays matchup. 3 Stars of the Game: Game 39

The Red Sox offense jumped off to a quick start in Tampa before fizzeling out and not providing much more entertainment for the rest of the evening. Tampa's starter needed a little bit more time to warm up before the game, giving up 3 runs in the first inning before settling down into a grove that confused batters and made him the leagues first 7-0 pitcher this year. Here are...

Overseas Fan - why the Red Sox

In the previous article in this series, you were introduced to the elusive Overseas Fan that lives far away from the Boston Red Sox. We pick up where we left off. David Ortiz Batting Cleanup Despite Sore Oblique Muscle As Jon Lester, David Price Square Off in Tampa Bay

A Jon Lester-David Price matchup looks good on paper, but other evidence suggests that Wednesday night’s Red Sox-Rays matchup could favor the hitters. Since then, Lester has had his up and downs, and although he one-hit the Blue...

Pitino on Chris Jones: As good a guard as I've coached

Rick Pitino has coached some pretty good guards during his nearly 40-year career in college basketball.  Recently at Louisville, there was Russ Smith, the two-time All-American, and Peyton Siva, the point guard who led the Cardinals to a national championship in 2013. He had a host of talented players at Kentucky, too, the school with which he won it all in 1998.  A player currently...
