We’ve seen on numerous occasions that parking your vehicle within range of batted baseballs can be a dangerous proposition.

Last month a Los Angeles Angels employee took a chance parking in the danger zone and this is what happened. Earlier this week a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks organization was the victim of a similar fate.

Not only did Alex Kim receive an autographed ball, but a bit more.

I would still suggest being careful where you park near baseball stadiums though.

Jered Weaver appears unfamiliar with catcher’s practice throw to second base (GIF)

A bit of spring training humor occurred recently involving Los Angeles of Angels of Anaheim pitcher Jared Weaver and his evident — albeit perhaps only temporarily –  unfamiliarity with the common practice of a catcher making a warmup throw of his own to the second base bag  following a pitcher’s warmup tosses. Anyone who has ever played baseball, even all the way back to...

Howie Kendrick Player Profile & Projections

By Robert Cunningham - AngelsWin.com Staff Writer 2013 Outlook: Batting Title? Nah, it just doesn't seem like it will ever happen for Howie. However, Kendrick does bring a valuable home-grown talent to second base that goes unappreciated at times. Although Howie isn't a Cano or Kinsler type at the position he does bring steady value with his bat and ability to make contact...

Chris Iannetta Player Profile & Projections

By Robert Cunningham, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer 2013 Outlook: Chris is coming off an injury season where he only saw action in 79 Major League games. Look for Iannetta to bat in the back part of the lineup, probably in the 8-hole, behind Kendrick/Callaspo and in front of Bourjos on the average day. Iannetta brings a great batting eye to the plate as evidenced by his career...

Jered Weaver Player Profile & Projections

By Robert Cunningham - AngelsWin.com Staff Writer 2013 Outlook: In 2012 we saw a slight concern with Jered as his average fastball velocity dipped down a full tick from 89 to 88 mph. However, Jered does several other things really well that compensate for the lost velocity. Look to Jered to be the team ace again this year as he does an incredible job entering each game with a...

Pujols hits first spring homer in Angels' loss

TEMPE, Ariz. Apparently Albert Pujols doesn't need his knee to hit. The Angels have gone slow this spring with their first baseman, who underwent offseason surgery on his right knee. But his swing looked to be in midseason form Saturday when Pujols crushed a majestic solo home run off Colorado's Juan Nicasio in the third inning of the Angels' 8-6 loss to the Rockies...

Angels' Blanton pitches 2 innings before rainout

Joe Blanton got two innings of work in Friday before the Los Angeles Angels and Arizona Diamondbacks were rained out with the score 1-1 in the bottom of third. Pitching in rain, Blanton made his second spring training start and allowed one run and two hits in two innings. ''His bread and butter is his two-seam fastball, and it looked real good,'' Angels catcher...

2013 Player Projection: Andrew Romine

With Maicer Izturis gone, the Angels are on the hunt for his heir apparent and Andrew Romine should get the first shot at filling his metaphorically large but physically small shoes. But is he up to the task? 2012 Stats: 21 PA, .412 AVG, .500 OBP, .412 SLG, 2 R, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 1 SB, 0 CS, 32 K, .413 wOBA, 165 OPS+, 0.2 fWAR 2013 ZiPS Projections: 494 PA, .232 AVG, .288 OBP...

Royals 17, Angels 11

Albert Pujols homered for the second straight game, one of four shots by the Los Angeles Angels. On this day, that wasn't nearly enough. Jeff Francoeur, Billy Butler and Chris Getz combined to get nine hits and drive in nine runs Sunday as the Kansas City Royals beat the Angels 17-11 to win for the 13th time in 14 games. Pujols homered in the fifth off Bruce Chen. The star...

A Rebuttal to Ron Shandler and David Gonos re: Mike Trout

Baseball HQ's Ron Shandler makes some ostenibly persuasive arguments as to why Trout should not be drafted anywhere near his current price tag (top-three overall pick or $40-plus dollar buy), as does my industry colleague David Gonos. While there's little doubt it would be wise to bet on regression from his monster rookie year, I think both overstate the case and that Trout...

Switch pitcher could see action in MLB

29-year-old New York Yankees minor leaguer Pat Venditte normally wouldn’t be a player worth noticing. He’s been in the minors for the past seven seasons after the Yankees selected him in the 45th round of the 2007 amateur draft.  On the surface, Venditte is nothing more than your non-prospect who has bounced around in small towns in an attempt to make it to the Majors. That’s...

According to a team press release, the Houston Astros have fired their manager Bo Porter. The team additionally relieved Bench Coach Dave Trembley of his duties. Tom Lawless will be the team’s interim manager for the remainder of the 2014 season. This move may not come as a surprise to many, as earlier in the […]

Rob Gronkowski on Week 1 availability: 'I'm ready to go'

Rob Gronkowski ended all the speculation surrounding his Week 1 status with seven simple words. “I’m ready to go. I’ll be playing,” Gronkowski told reporters at Gillette Stadium on Monday. This means that the New England Patriots tight end will be on the field Sunday for the team’s season opener against the Miami Dolphins. Gronkowski had been slowly progressing throughout...

Blue Jays could look to trade Jose Bautista in the offseason?

The Toronto Blue Jays were hoping to be a legitimate playoff contender this season, and they looked the part for the first half of the year before falling apart after the All-Star break. They currently are sitting at 69-67 and are 10 games behind the division-leading Baltimore Orioles, who have begun extending their lead in the AL East. According to a report from Nick Cafardo, the...

Japanese H.S. game goes 50 innings before winner decided

Hard to believe, but Mark Townsend of Yahoo Big League Stew reports that a high school “Rubber Baseball” game in Japan went a full 50 innings, or 5.6 full length games before being decided 3-0 (no scoring the first 49 innings).  The winner was Chukyo High School over Sotoku in the tournament semifinal game. Some of the stats are almost too much to be true.  According to Townsend...

Oakland Raiders fielding oldest roster in NFL

The Raiders spent the offseason loading up on a slew of veteran talent, a calculated effort to inflate their win total. To nobody's surprise, it's subsequently inflated the team's collective age. Jimmy Kempski of Philly.com, doing some calculations following Saturday's final roster cutdowns, deduced that Oakland has the oldest roster in the NFL. The average age...

Report: Sam clears waivers, can join an NFL practice squad

ST. LOUIS — Michael Sam was probably never an ideal fit with the St. Louis Rams and it had absolutely nothing to do with his sexual orientation. They’re just too well-stocked at defensive end, Sam’s position. Sam showed up for his face-to-face exit meeting with coach Jeff Fisher Sunday, a few hours after clearing waivers. He shook hands with two reporters and accepted well...

Alleged nude photos of Kate Upton and boyfriend Justin Verlander were leaked online Sunday as part of a massive celebrity photo leak. The alleged nude photos show the Detroit Tigers ace and supermodel girlfriend naked in a bathroom standing side-by-side in profile with the mirror. Brewers prospect Nathan Orf plays all nine positions

Minor leaguer Nathan Orf did something Sunday that only five Major Leaguers have ever done…play all nine positions in one game. The Milwaukee Brewers prospect suited up for the Class-A Brevard County Manatees, took the field at catcher and then proceeded to make his way around the diamond. In order, Orf, who spent most of his season at second base, played catcher, first base, second...
