Like he did in 2004 and 2007, James Taylor performed the National Anthem at Fenway Park before Game 2 of the World Series on Thursday. Except, he almost didn’t. Either Taylor decided to put a twist on the beginning of the anthem or he accidentally started singing “America the Beautiful” instead. Either way, it was great because he’s still James Taylor.

Cardinals GM John Mozeliak: Jon Lester’s glove substance is a ‘non-issue’

If Jon Lester did indeed use some sort of substance like Vaseline or pine tar to doctor his pitches in Game 1 of the World Series, the St. Louis Cardinals are not concerned about it. When asked about photos and video clips that have been circulating the web on Thursday morning, Cardinals general manager John […]

Jon Lester And The Red Sox Down Cardinals In Game 1

Mike Napoli smashed a bases-loaded double off Adam Wainwright in the first inning, clearing the bases. The Boston Red Sox were in control from the get-go, and downed the St. Louis Cardinals 8-1. Sox starter Jon Lester turned in another excellent postseason outing, going 7.2 shutout innings, surrendering just five hits and a walk while striking out eight. This game was over...

The 2013 World Series between the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals isn’t even one inning old. But, already need robot umpires. Umpire Dana Demuth just made the worst call in the history of baseball at second base. It was first and second with one out when this play happened.  Luckily after Red Sox manager John Farrell came out to argue, and Demuth was overruled by his other...

Red Sox take 5-0 lead over Cards in WS opener

Mike Napoli hit a three-run double in the first, and the Boston Red Sox took advantage of a reversed call by umpires and sloppy St. Louis fielding to take a 5-0 lead over the Cardinals after three innings of the World Series opener on Wednesday night. Carlos Beltran prevented the game from becoming even more of an early blowout, reaching over the right-field wall to rob David Ortiz...

Dana DeMuth, John Hirschbeck Explain Crucial Reversed Call From Game 1 of World Series

BOSTON — And John Farrell didn’t even have to throw a red challenge flag. Second base umpire Dana DeMuth made a terrible call in the first inning of Game 1 of the World Series on Wednesday. Fortunately for the Red Sox, the five other umpires joined DeMuth in reversing the call after Farrell came out to contest the initial ruling. It was a key moment in what was eventually an...

Chris Carpenter again embraces role as cheerleader

ST. LOUIS (AP) Chris Carpenter was a helpless spectator in 2004 when the Cardinals were swept by the Boston Red Sox in the World Series. Nine years later, the teams are matched up again and he is sidelined with the same nerve-related condition in his pitching arm. The 2005 NL Cy Young Award winner, who grew up in New Hampshire rooting for Boston, understands this could be the end...

Red Sox “Fan” Leaves w/ 2 Outs, 2 Strikes In 9th Inning Of WS Game 1

A.B. If you’re an old lady in a crowded place, I can understand leaving early. I don’t care if it’s Game 1 of the 2013 World Series or the dinner rush at Bob Evans in a Florida retirement community. If you are old and tired, by all means, go home. But to wait until the Red Sox are literally 1 strike away from going up 1 game in the world series, is INSANE. Pink hats usually...

Harvard Doctor’s World Series Health Tips Include Naps, Exercise to Help Stress of Watching Red Sox

This really gives a new meaning to the phrase “diehard fan.” The Red Sox beat the Cardinals in Game 1 of the World Series on Wednesday night, and while the final score of 8-1 may make it seem like a one-sided affair, the rest of the series won’t necessarily go as smoothly. One Harvard medical professional, Dr. Michael Craig Miller, has put together a list of suggestions and...

DePodesta Explains Why He Passed On Michael Wacha

Mike Puma of the New York Post spoke to Paul DePodesta who rationalized why he passed on Michael Wacha and selected Gavin Cecchini with the 12th selection of the 2012 Draft. “Our guys liked Wacha a lot in 2012 — one of the top college pitchers on the board,” Mets VP of player development and amateur scouting told The Post on Friday. But the Mets also liked their organizational...

Things go wrong, quickly, for Cards

Carlos Beltran reached over the bullpen wall to deprive David Ortiz of a second-inning grand slam, then rubbed his right side in pain. He soon left the game and the ballpark, headed to the hospital for X-rays. Even the good defensive plays were costly for the Cardinals on an uncharacteristic night. One of the best-fielding teams in the league over the regular-season, the National...

Michael Wacha: How the changeup will help him in Game 2

The St. Louis Cardinals got blown out by the Boston Red Sox in Game 1 of the World Series–losing 8-1 despite having their ace, Adam Wainwright, on the mound. A costly miscue by Pete Kozma in the first inning when trying to turn a double play ball set the tone for the Cardinals, and the Red Sox took full advantage. The Cardinal defense, though it is known for its poor range,...

Cardinals keep winning without former MVP Pujols

ST. LOUIS (AP) Tony La Russa was always protective of his players, so it comes as no surprise that the former St. Louis Cardinals manager swims against the current when it comes to Albert Pujols. It's been two years since the three-time NL MVP played his last game in St. Louis, sprayed some champagne, boarded a parade vehicle, waved to adoring fans lining the streets and then...

Dwight Howard apologizes for tweet about Palestine

At least Dwight didn’t say he was hacked. I am not sure why he is apologizing for though, if that is how he feels, that is how he feels. I can see apologize for making a political comment he didn’t mean to make, but how can you offend someone with your belief? It would be like apologizing for being Catholic to a Jewish person, you can’t control how others feel about an issue...
