Are you as honest as Jeremy Affeldt? In his new book, the San Francisco Giants relief pitcher says he returned $500,000 to the team after noticing a clerical error in his contract. The San Francisco Chronicle’s Henry Schulman shares what happened. According to Schulman, Affeldt writes that he was set to earn $4 million in 2010 from the team. They negotiated a two-year contract extension for 2011 and 2012, and the language was mistakenly changed to say he was going to earn $4.5 million in 2010. Both sides signed the contract without noticing the error. After Affeldt realized the error, he spoke with a few people who said he was legally entitled to the money. However, Affeldt didn’t feel right accepting the money, so he notified the team and they signed a new deal that included the correct amount. Affeldt thinks his honesty helped make negotiations smoother last winter when he and the team agreed to a 3-year, $18 million contract. I’m guessing his consecutive strong seasons in 2011 and 2012 didn’t hurt, either. Forearm bash to Hardball Talk

  • Nice to know some people have class! Seems in this day & age to be in short supply...at ALL levels of society!
Nice Jeremy...guess that makes you one of the good guys in a small club of good guys!
  • Get the hell off this post, you moron! No one wants your stuff.
  • WOW! and AMEN~~ <<
  • Class Act!
  • when you are making 4 million a year it's easy to be honest about a half million you hadn't even received yet.
  • trebor171 - granted, he makes a lot of money, but pro athlete's taxes are huge so he's not bringing home 4 million. Plus, he was told he had a legal right to keep the money. How many people would still do what he did? 1 in 1,000,000 maybe, maybe even less. Thank you Jeremy, my Christian brother. We need more people like you to being God the glory he deserves.
  • Come on trebor he has done something good here.May I ask how you feel about the roaches in washington dc who are robbing us blind every day and know it.Affeldt deserves a pat on the back.
  • Karma baby keep it good and keep it real!
  • I earn $35,000 per year, if they accidentily paid me $535,000 I'd probably return it. But first I would spread that cash all over my bed then invite some ladies over to get down on top of a half a million dollars.
  • There needs to be more people like this.. Kudos for being a good example!!
  • There is hope for professional athletes after all. This is someone that my kids really can look up to. Class act.

Celtics looking to make LeBron's life difficult in playoff series

WALTHAM, Mass. — You’d never accuse these Boston Celtics of not respecting their opponent. As Game 1 of the Celtics’ first-round playoff matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers creeps closer, head coach Brad Stevens lauded the Cavs’ loaded lineup, with the highest praise reserved for their star, LeBron James. “LeBron, (Kevin) Love, (Kyrie) Irving — those guys are all...

WATCH: Luke Rockhold chokes out Lyoto Machida

Luke Rockhold (pictured) may have entered Saturday’s scrap against Lyoto Machida as the fourth ranked UFC middleweight, but he likely left the cage as the division’s top contender. Sorry, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.  Machida fell to the mat in the opening round after eating a punch (it also looked like he slipped at the same time), but “The Dragon” was never able to recover...

Andre Johnson: Signing with Colts not about revenge

The Houston Texans and their former wide receiver Andre Johnson parted ways on some not-so-pleasant terms a couple of months ago. Since signing with the Indianapolis Colts, Johnson has addressed the public setting the record straight that he was not out for revenge against his former team (via the Houston Chronicle). (Leaving the Texans) hasn’t even really set in yet. I was...

Josh Hamilton filed for divorce around time of relapse

Josh Hamilton reportedly filed for divorce from his wife Katie back in February, which is around the time he relapsed. The timing is likely not a coincidence. Last month, a report indicated that Hamilton went to a strip club and used cocaine after a fight with his wife. The Dallas Morning News has obtained court...Read More

Isaiah Thomas once peed himself to avoid subbing out

You typically have to be at least 54 inches tall to ride a roller coaster, 57 inches tall to get out of a booster seat, and at least six feet tall to play in the NBA. OK, so the latter isn’t an actual rule, but more of a forgone conclusion that if you don’t hit that minimum height suggestion, you won’t get a crack at most rosters beyond high school. Unless you’re Isaiah...

WATCH: Raptors fans shower Paul Pierce with vulgar taunts

It’s safe to assume that Paul Pierce will not be spending much time in Toronto during the final years of his career and during retirement. The Wizards guard appears to be viciously hated by Raptors fans after taking a couple shots at the team and the message was quite clear during Saturday’s Game 1 in Toronto. Now that Adrian Peterson has been reinstated by the NFL, it will be interesting to see if he is successful in his quest to force his way out of Minnesota.
