The Colorado Rockies have inked first baseman Justin Morneau to a 2-year $13 million contract. In today’s game with the huge dollar contracts being thrown around, this represents a solid value move by the Rockies. Morneau is coming off a season where he batted .259/.323/.411 with 17 homers and 77 RBI. Considering the New York Mets paid $7 million for Chris Young who hit .200, $13 million over 2-years for Morneau seems like a steal.

The 32-year old Morneau is a far cry from the player he was from 2006-2009 when he averaged over 29 homers and 117 RBI’s per season. Pittsburgh gets themselves a solid veteran presence at the corner and at a bargain basement price. As far as Morneau’s value, he does go to a slightly less favorable home ballpark but we won’t know the psychological effect of moving to a team that’s on the upswing. Morneau’s value might get a slight bump up the lists.

Amaro's Latest Answer- Jeff Manship
