One of the downfalls Mark Buehrle had to face when playing for the Miami Marlins was that his dog was not allowed in Miami-Dade County due to a pit bull ban. Buehrle says his dog, Slater, is very friendly and his wife Jamie even started a petition in Miami to end the ban. Now that Buehrle was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in a blockbuster deal on Tuesday, at least he, Jamie and Slater can live in peace — or not.

Unfortunately for the Buehrles, pit bulls have also been banned in the province of Ontario, Canada since 2005. Mark and Jamie might have an even bigger issue on their hands in Canada, since that means they would have to make a long commute from Toronto over to the nearest province, which is Quebec.

As we learned from his harsh criticism of Michael Vick nearly two years ago, Buehrle is a big-time dog lover. He’s not the type of person who is just going to leave Slater behind in Florida, so I’m sure he’ll either get used to the drive or fight to be able to keep his dog in Toronto. As Kevin Kaduk of Big League Stew pointed out, another petition is pretty much inevitable.

Mark Buehrle Can’t Bring Dog to Toronto Due to Pit Bull Ban in Ontario

During the long baseball season and the dog days of summer, Mark Buehrle may be missing one of his canine companions. Buehrle is a huge dog lover who’s done charity work around animals and pet adoption, said some harsh things about Michael Vick and is also the owner of a Staffordshire terrier named Slater. When Buehrle first signed with the Miami Marlins last offseason, he and...

Links of the Day 11/15/12

There is nothing wrong with Belgians. Belgians are the best. Where are the locked out NHLers playing? HINT: Not the NHL. Mark Buehrle is on the way to Toronto. Can’t bring his dogs, though. The word “stunning” is used quite frequently in international soccer. SCOREBOARD Nothing today. Makes you miss baseball, doesn’t it?

Blue Jays, Marlins Proposed Blockbuster Trade Causes Quite a Stir on Twitter

The Miami Marlins made a huge offseason splash heading into the 2012 season, signing players Jose Reyes, Heath Bell and Mark Buehrle. After a depressing season that didn’t provide the results the organization, players and fans were hoping for, the Marlins have already made the biggest news of this offseason, agreeing to trade Josh Johnson, Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle and Emilio Bonifacio to...

Traded Marlins Affected By More Than Tax Rates

The Marlins and Blue Jays agreed to a blockbuster trade earlier this week that sent Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson to Toronto. There are clear tax ramifications for everyone involved in the trade, and as an accountant who works in this field and consults with players and agents, I find it very interesting on a number levels. However, what makes it more interesting than...

4 Ridiculous Sports Trades of the Past Ten Years

Did you see the trade the Miami Marlins just pulled off with the Toronto Blue Jays? Good lord, they just got rid of their best (and most expensive) players, giving up guys like Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle, and Josh Johnson, all for some unproven minor league prospects and underachieving major league players. With the lopsidedness of that trade, as well as just the pure depth of guys...

Miami Marlins: Irrelevant Again

The Miami Marlins made a big splash last offseason by bringing in Ozzie Guillen as manager and signing big name free agents Jose Reyes, Heath Bell and Mark Buehrle. Needless to say all those players are now not a part of the Marlins. In a clear move to dump salary, the Marlins traded away Reyes, Buehrle and Josh Johnson to the Toronto Blue Jays for basically nothing. For a team...

Jeffrey Loria, Marlins Continue Disgrace as Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle, and Possibly Jose Reyes Appear Headed to Blue Jays

The Miami Marlins disgrace to baseball continues.   Two reports have surfaced that the Marlins are unloading even more of their talent.   First, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Marlins are letting teams know that "virtually everyone" is available.   Then, Jon Morosi of Fox Sports just reported that the Marlins are close to sending the Marlins' best...
