TEAMS: Chicago Cubs

Via Hall of Very Good:

If vultures circling above you is a sign that you're doomed...what does it mean for the Chicago Cubs when coyotes actually hang out outside Wrigley Field?

Late Saturday night, photographer Will Byington was in Wrigleyville and noticed the two wild dogs roaming outside "The Friendly Confines".

"The scary thing is that they didn't seem afraid. You'd think they'd be cowering, but they didn't seem vicious," Byington told Chicago's NBC 5.  "You hear stories about them venturing out and spotted around parks and whatnot, but they were right in the street with cars zooming by and honking. It didn't seem to phase them."

I'll let you come up with the "Party Animal" jokes yourself.

Cubs interested in Giancarlo Stanton

Nick Cafardo says the Cubs are one of many teams interested in acquiring the Marlins 22 year old superstar. 1. Giancarlo Stanton, RF, Marlins — It would be a coup for whichever of the 25 teams (I’m exaggerating) that would or have bid for him to actually acquire him. But commissioner Bud Selig is watching [...]

Cubs continue spending smart by signing Scott Feldman

The Chicago Cubs continued their wise spending spree this offseason, signing former Texas Rangers starting pitcher Scott Feldman to a one year deal worth $6 million. Feldman's signing comes on the heels of the Cubs signing former Minnesota Twins starter Scott Baker to a one year deal worth $5.5 million. Feldman is also a nice value signing for the Cubs, after he was scheduled...

In Advance of the Non-Tender Deadline

In random Cubs staffing news, former Milwaukee Brewer Rob Deer was hired as the assistant hitting coach today.  Hurray, they’re getting the Cheese Band back together!  At first glance the batting average looks terrible but then you also look at the peripherals and realize that Deer took his fair share of walks and got on base a bunch while doing damage with the pitches he actually...

Cubs sign Scott Feldman

The Cubs added another right handed starting pitcher to their team today when they signed Scott Feldman to a 1-year deal for $6 million. There's another million bucks in incentives. One-Year Wonders

The Cubs add to their stable of pitchers today, by signing RHP Scott Feldman to a one year deal for $6M, plus $1M in incentives according to various sources. Feldman seemed to be a popular target among Cubs armchair GM's this offseason for reasons unbenknownst to me, but TheJedi seemed to concur. He's certainly cheap enough and getting away from that Texas park and the AL...

Cubs Hire of Deer Upsets Fans Who Think You Must Be a Good Player to be a Good Coach

Earlier today, ESPN broke the news about the Chicago Cubs hiring Rob Deer as the new Assistant Hitting coach for the 2013 season. Fans might recognize him as being a former teammate of Manager Dale Sveum on the Milwaukee Brewers. However, Deer is better known for leading the American League four times in strike outs. It was only a matter of time.  Only a matter of time before someone on First Take said something stupid enough to drag the show’s carcass back into the headlines.  This time, it wasn’t Skip Bayless, nor even the ghost of Rob Parker.  It was Stephen A. Smith and his comments on women “provoking” assault. In case you were away from social media Friday, Smith clumsily talked...

Sumlin: I'm not interested in kicking players off team

Texas and Texas A&M are in different conferences and apparently the school’s football coaches operate differently when it comes to player discipline, too.  Charlie Strong kicks players off his team, Kevin Sumlin likes to keep them around and turn them into men. That seems to be the opinion of the Aggies’ coach, anyway.  Sumlin said it’s easy to kick a guy off the team...
