PLAYERS: David Murphy
TEAMS: Texas Rangers

DALLAS Texas Rangers outfielder David Murphy has never met another one of Baylor's most famous athletes current Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III. But like just about everyone who has met RG3, Murphy is a big fan. "I did go on the Internet the other day and I did purchase an 'I heart RG3 t-shirt,'" Murphy said. Murphy's certainly not alone in his affection for the Baylor quarterback. But as one of the more prominent athletes from Baylor, the former All-America takes a lot of pride in knowing that the Heisman Trophy winner is creating a lot of buzz for the Waco school. "I'm very much enjoying everything he has brought to the program and the university," said Murphy, who was a first-round pick of Boston following his junior year at Baylor in 2003. "If you would have told me eight years ago, my last year at Baylor, that we were going to have a Heisman Trophy winner and a chance at a 10-win season in football, I probably would have laughed. It's been a lot of fun to watch." RG3 has been a hot topic at the Murphy house. David's wife Andrea is also a fan and the two Murphy's believe Griffin is now owner of the most prestigious award in sports. Murphy doesn't even mind taking a backseat to Griffin in Baylor lore. "It's RG3 territory," he said. "What a great guy. He just seems like a class act. He seems like the exact type of guy you'd want representing your school. He's not afraid to look silly. He's very humble. I've heard he can sing." Griffin also continues to collect a lot of hardware. He'll be honored Wednesday at the Baylor men's basketball game. All tickets remaining as of Monday were being sold for 3. Griffin was named to the Associated Press All-America first team. He's the first quarterback in school history to earn the honor and just the third Baylor first teamer since 1991.
