On the one-year anniversary of Jim Riggleman quitting...

What better way to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the shocking day Jim Riggleman quit as manager of the Washington Nationals than with the classic photo above of Riggleman drowning his sorrows that night with some young ladies at Caddies in Bethesda. "I was solving the world's problems last night at Caddies...I had to let those ladies get a look at me...

No offense for Zimmermann, Zimmerman

(Another 0-4 night. How's the shoulder, Zim? Screencap via MASN.) Orioles 2, Nationals 1: Davey's Baltimore Homecoming ruined. Jason Hammel dominates Nats, again (5-0 for his career). No run support for Jordan Zimmermann, again. Jesus Flores came thisclose to tying the game with two outs and two on in the 7th, but lined out to a leaping J.J. Hardy. No...

"We need to score more. That's not in question."

"We need to score more. That's not in question." (Ryan Zimmerman, via NatsInsider, 6/24/2012) Peter Angelos's team beats Ted Lerner's team in 2012 Battle of the Beltways. MASN-Nationals battle still undecided. Smart money is on Lerner for that one. Orioles 2, Nationals 1 (Sunday): Seems only fitting that the only run the Nats could muster was...

Ailing Zimmerman keeps plugging along for Nationals

Maybe the Nationals won't be losing Ryan Zimmerman again after all. Earlier in the weekend, manager Davey Johnson said the Nationals might have to give the third baseman another cortisone shot for his inflamed right shoulder and possibly a spot on the disabled list once more. But Sunday, Zimmerman said that might not take place. The third baseman got a cortisone shot before...

Could We See John Lannan In July?

With the incredible Washington Nationals starting pitching staff this season, many have completely forgotten about John Lannan toiling down in Triple-A Syracuse. A few doubleheaders are coming up in the next couple months for the Nats, so it’s probably about time to remember that he’s there. Lannan struggled through most of the season in Syracuse, posting a 4.66 ERA and a 1...

Jamie Moyer Released by Orioles, 49-Year-Old Was Oldest Ever to Play in Majors

The Baltimore Orioles did not promote 49-year-old Jamie Moyer from the minor leagues after three starts. Moyer requested a move, and that’s just what the Orioles did. Baltimore released the oldest active player in professional baseball on Saturday. He was released by the Rockies on May 30 and signed a minor league contract with the Orioles on June 6. When Moyer signed the contract...

Jamie Moyer’s Career Is Probably Over

Jamie Moyer, the 49-year-old lefty whose pitching career has spanned a whopping four decades, was released by the Orioles after his request. When Moyer signed with the O’s earlier this month, he told the organization that he would make three starts with Triple-A Norfolk and then the O’s would make the decision to promote him or not. He pitched his three starts for Triple-A...

The State of the Orioles Address 2012

Before today's game the Orioles GM Dan Duquette joined manager Buck Showalter for a Q+A session with season ticket plan holders. The session started 15 minutes before five under a simply gorgeous summer sky here in Baltimore. Jim Hunter, as usual, emceed the event wich took place on top of the thirdbase dugout. Duquette took his seat, and Buck strode across the grass behind...

Orioles release 49-year-old Moyer

The Orioles have released 49-year-old pitcher Jamie Moyer, who requested the move after the team failed to promote him from the minor leagues. Moyer started the season with Colorado, where he became the oldest pitcher to win a game in the big leagues. He was released by the Rockies after going 2-5 and signed a minor league deal with the Orioles on June 6. Moyer signed the contract...

Here’s A Ryan That’s Not A Supremacist

Ryan Zimmerman recently admitted to the Washington Post that his shoulder isn’t at 100%.  I recently admitted to the College of Fantasy Baseball at Charleston Alumni magazine that my pinkie finger has been acting up.  I go to type up some fantasy baseball  advice and it looks like this, “I drafted Ryan Zimmerman, that piece of @#$%^&*”  I don’t reach for the Shift...

Nationals Offense Fails Again In Season-Series Loss To Orioles

The Washington Nationals entered Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles looking to go 4-0 in rubber games this season. All the way into the eighth inning, the Nats looked to have it in the bag when a rare bullpen foul up cost the Nats the game. I’m not blaming this one on them, though. Ross Detwiler did what he needed to in his first outing since returning to the starting...

Orioles' Reimold will have surgery on neck

Nolan Reimold's season is likely over. The Baltimore Orioles' promising left fielder will undergo surgery to remove a bulging disk from his neck, fusing two vertebrae together, to alleviate pressure on a nerve that had sidelined him since April 30. Reimold, 28, will undergo surgery on Monday at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. The surgery, Reimold said, is similar...

Orioles 2, Nationals 1

Jason Hammel pitched eight innings of five-hit ball and had a career high-tying 10 strikeouts to lead the Baltimore Orioles past the Washington Nationals 2-1 on Friday night. Coming off a one-hit shutout against Atlanta, Hammel (8-2) allowed an unearned run in improving to 5-0 lifetime against Washington. The right-hander has gone 19 straight innings without giving up an earned...

Orioles release Jamie Moyer

Jamie Moyer has requested and received his release, the Orioles announced. Moyer was pitching at Triple-A Norfolk where he posted a 1.69 era in three starts. Moyer though is not ready to hang it up just yet as he looks to find a job with another club. The Orioles had signed Moyer in early June, after he was released by the Rockies. The 49-year old, had signed a Minor League deal...

Nationals-Rockies Preview

Every time since May 20 that Stephen Strasburg has taken the ball, he's won a game for the NL East-leading Washington Nationals. Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy hasn't had any starter win a game in three weeks. Making his first appearance against the Rockies, Strasburg will try to become the first Nationals pitcher to win seven consecutive starts Monday night at Coors...
