NEW YORK-Adam LaRoche's two-run homer-the third of five straight two-out hits off R.A. Dickey-broke a tie and started a four-run sixth inning for the Washington Nationals, and Gio Gonzalez allowed an unearned run on two hits over seven strong innings as the Nationals beat the reeling New York Mets 5-2 on Tuesday. The Nationals' fourth straight win improved their National League-best record to 57-39 and assured they'd remain at least 41/2 games ahead of the second-place Atlanta Braves in the NL East. The Mets lost for the 10th time in 11 games since the All-Star Break and fell to 47-50 overall. Dickey had allowed just three hits and one run until the Nationals got to him in a hurry in the sixth. Mike Morse singled before LaRoche's two-run homer deep into the right-field seats. Danny Espinosa and Roger Bernadina then singled before Jesus Flores' single to left scored Espinosa. Jason Bay's throw skipped past catcher Mike Nickeas, which allowed Bernadina to s...

Progression of Matt Harvey is something to keep fans tuned in

I don’t think I need to remind anyone here about the tumultuous state that the Mets currently find themselves in. Clearly, I don’t have to tell you they have dropped 12 out of their last 13 games. Obviously, Mets’ fans are at the end of their rope and almost all have thrown in the towel and bemoaning how a great story fizzled with such a devastating crash and burn. Oh, but...

Second Half Failure Will Be Good For The Mets

I know what your thinking..The Mets are well on their way to making the 2012 season nothing more than an afterthought.  The fact is your probably right, and that’s exactly what needs to happen if the organization is to find its way back to the promise land sooner than later.  With the semi-successful first half, many Mets fans (myself included) allowed themselves to buy into...

Malaise Setting In As Listless Mets Fall To Nationals 5-2

Oh no, not another Joe D. game recap… Embrace the horror my friends. Nothing we do now will change anything. The time to strike was when the Mets were winning and they needed a general manager who could sustain that glorious run when the Mets never spent a day under ,500 and staked a solid claim on the National League Wild Card. You snooze, you lose. Sandman fell asleep at the...

Davey Johnson expects H-Rod to be spectacular next time

In case you need more proof that Henry Rodriguez has incriminating photos of Davey Johnson, here's Johnson talking about Henry after the latest #SMH-Rod mess on Wednesday in NY (2 batters faced; 2 BB; 11 pitches, 3 strikes): "With Henry, it’s kind of hit or miss. Nobody hits him, but if he doesn’t get it over, it doesn’t matter. They’re still going to get...

Strasburg dominates as Nats sweep

Stephen Strasburg struck out 11 in seven dominant innings, Michael Morse and Danny Espinosa hit consecutive homers and the Washington Nationals completed a sweep of the free-falling New York Mets on Wednesday with a 5-2 victory. Adam LaRoche hit a two-run homer for a second straight day, and Espinosa doubled and scored on one of the Mets' two errors in the Nationals' fifth...

Nationals 8, Mets 2 (10)

NEW YORK -- One hit came after the other in the top of the 10th inning for Washington, suddenly leaving the New York Mets so far from a win it became hard to see how close they once had been. Just like the defeats that have piled up recently, Monday night's 8-2 loss to the Washington Nationals left the Mets trying to recognize the team that once threatened to challenge Washington...

Yes, Bobby Bonilla Was Paid $1,193,248.20 From The Mets This Year

That Barry Bonds cycling post last night brought up old memories for BC Twitter followers. See, Bonds is now looking like he did in 1991, which brought up Bobby Bonilla’s name from the crypt. That led to: “Is Bonilla still getting paid by the Mets?” Um, yes, and Bobby received check #2 this year of his 25-year run of $1,193,248.20 checks from the team for deferring his salary...

Schadenfreude rekindles interest in the 2012 Mets season

I need a smile. Seemingly all of the goodwill built up by the Mets’ strong play at the beginning of the year has melted away after the All-Star break. I watch games now expecting bad things to happen and that’s not how I wish to be a fan. Need something, anything, to break this cycle to get back to being an optimist in order to enjoy the rest of the baseball season. And I think...

The 2012 Mets: Something’s Got To Give

I think it’s safe to say the Dog Days have arrived – that all-too-familiar time when one day runs into the next and it seems like no one has any energy. People get edgier this time of year, tempers shorten and frustration lengthens. If you’re a fan of the Mets, the Dog Days started just before the All-Star Game. Talk about being edgy and frustrated… The Mets have returned...
