New York Mets
NEW YORK -- R.A. Dickey had been given a one-run lead in the fifth inning Tuesday, and knowing the New York Mets' offense lately, he couldn't expect to get much more than that. But Dickey couldn't hold it, as Tyler Moore hit a two-run, pinch-hit home run in the top of the seventh to lead the Washington Nationals to a 5-3 win at Citi Field. Bryce Harper set a career high with four hits, after manager Davey Johnson gave the rookie a challenge. Harper, who was 0-for-10 against Dickey entering the game, said before the game he didn't expect to start because he couldn't hit Dickey, but he picked up three hits against the knuckleballer. Jordan Zimmerman (11-8) allowed two runs on six hits in five innings, striking out six and walking three, as the Nationals beat New York for the second straight game. Up 2-1, Dickey was eight outs from tying Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez for the major league lead in wins. Gonzalez had secured his 19th victory the previous night...

R.A. Dickey appeared to be on his way to his 19th win tonight. The Mets even ended their multi-run inning streak in the fifth to give Dickey a 2-1 lead. However, in the top of the seventh, pinch-hitter Tyler Moore came to the plate and drove Dickey’s knuckleball out of the park for a two-run homer. The Nats led 3-2 and went on to win 5-3.
The Nats got on the board early tonight...
It comes as no surprise to most Mets fans, but the team has officially been eliminated from the NL East race. They are 22 games behind the NL East leading Washington Nationals and only have 21 games to play.
The team has little to play for the rest of the way and the majority of the team has probably started booking some off-season vacations. The one player who still has a lot to...

On Monday night, Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez picked up his 19th win of the season in a 5-1 win over the Mets. Gonzalez improved his Cy Young resume by pitching six innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out six.
The win makes RA Dickey’s Tuesday start against the Nationals that more important. Dickey will need a win to keep pace with Gonzalez in the chase for...
Bryce Harper had his first four-hit game and pinch-hitter Tyler Moore launched a go-ahead homer off R.A. Dickey in the seventh inning to send the Washington Nationals past the punchless New York Mets 5-3 on Tuesday night.
Harper doubled and singled twice off Dickey after the teen star entered 0 for 10 with six strikeouts against the knuckleballer. Leadoff batter Jayson Werth reached...

The Washington Nationals had to face off against one of the best starters in the National League, R.A. Dickey, on Tuesday. Dickey is considered by many to be a leading candidate for the NL Cy Young Award with Gio Gonzalez, Clayton Kershaw, and Johnny Cueto, and he was looking to tie Gonzalez for the MLB lead in wins at 19. The Nationals offense and pitching came through...
After a frustrating series loss to the Miami Marlins, the Washington Nationals (85-54) are headed to Citi Field to play a team they have fared much better against this season: the New York Mets (65-75). From 21 games behind, the Mets are no real threat to the Nationals, but they can be of use to them in preserving or increasing their 5.5 game lead on the second-place...
