The Nationals got on the board early, which gave fans hope that the team was going to keep up their positive momentum from the weekend series and a 14-1 win in their last game. But it wasn’t to be. The Nats lost 5-1, and Stephen Strasburg continued to get no run support. As my Nats Talk On The Go co-host Craig tweeted, Strasburg has the worst run support in the National League (2.71 runs/game). It’s not fun when your best pitcher can’t get any support. To compound things, the Nats lost and an Atlanta Braves won to make the deficit in the division 10 games. Highlights and Lowlights -Bryce Harper started the game off with a leadoff triple that just barely missed a home run, but he was driven in by a Ryan Zimmerman single up the middle to give the Nats an early 1-0 lead for Stephen Strasburg. -Through the first five innings, Strasburg dominated an extremely potent Tigers lineup. Prince Fielder walked with one out in the fourth, and he scored on an Andy Dirks ground-rule double, but that was it... until the sixth inning. -Strasburg seemed to lose command completely in the sixth inning though. After retiring Miguel Cabrera, he gave up hits to Fielder and Victor Martinez before walking Jhonny Peralta to load the bases. After striking out Dirks on a disgusting curveball in a 3-2 count, Strasburg missed his spot and gave up his first career grand slam to Alex Avila, putting the Nats in a 5-1 hole that they wouldn’t recover from. Just For Fun In the eighth inning on the way to a groundout, Ryan Zimmerman took a pitch in the dirt that bounced up in front of him. He used the bat to tap it back up in the air and catch it. I thought it was awesome, and probably the most fun thing about this game for the Nats
