From Press Release When owner Pat Salvi purchased the North Shore Navigators last February, one of his hopes was to establish a relationship with the Notre Dame baseball team and secure players for his new summer collegiate team in Lynn, MA in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL). Consider that mission accomplished as the Navigators will have four players from the Irish in uniform when they open their second season in the FCBL in June. Salvi's ties to Notre Dame run deep. He attended law school there and is currently an adjunct professor. Four of his five sons are Golden Domers, highlighted by Will (#36) and Chris (#24) who will take the field for the football team when the Irish play in the BCS title game on January 7th. Chris Salvi is a three-year starter on special teams. ^^^ Versatile Conor Biggio -- a native of Houston, Texas -- will add depth to Notre Dame and the Navs in both the infield and outfield. Biggio, a sophomore this spring, is a leadoff-type hitter with excellent speed. As a senior, the left-handed hitting Biggio was a Second Team All-State and First Team All-District selection and led St. Thomas High School to a state championship while hitting .356 with a .539 on base percentage. His father, Craig Biggio, was a member of the Houston Astros for 21 seasons where he collected 3,060 big league hits. His name is making its first appearance on Hall of Fame ballots this year. Craig also coached Conor at St. Thomas High. Junior catcher Forrest Johnson begins his 3rd season with the Irish this spring. Noted as a "catch and throw" player, the Navs will count on his defense behind the plate this summer. Johnson lettered in both football and baseball for 3 seasons at Hudson (OH) High School. As a senior, he was named the prestigious Northern Ohio Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year. His brother Cole played at ND and is now playing professionally in the Twins organization. At 6' 7", sophomore pitcher Scott Kerrigan shows promise with his power arm and will work in middle relief for the Irish this spring and fill one of the Navs relief roles during the 2013 season. Kerrigan won three varsity letters at Saugus (CA) High School before a torn ACL shut down his senior season. After an outstanding scholastic career in both baseball and football at Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville (NJ), Blaise Lezynski will vie for playing time this spring at a corner outfield spot for the Irish. The versatile, hard hitting Lezynski will play both infield and outfield in Lynn for the Navs this summer. The two-sport standout hit .409, .385, .506 and .492 respectively during his four high school seasons. A defensive back / linebacker in football, Blaise was a four-year letter winner in each sport during high school and was named to numerous post-season all-star squads in both sports. Navigators field manager Jon Cahill is thrilled to have four Division I players from one of the top baseball programs in the country. Cahill said, “I'm excited to have Notre Dame represented on the Navigators roster this summer and we, as an organization, look forward to watching them compete. I thank the Notre Dame baseball coaching staff for their continued cooperation and communication making this work, as well as entrusting us with their student athletes this upcoming season.” The Navigators are members of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. In its third season, the FCBL is fast becoming one of the top collegiate leagues in the USA attracting players from every major conference in the country as well as the top talent from throughout New England.
