Sergio Mitre made a rehab start for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday night and did pretty well for himself, despite going on three day’s rest.

Meat Tray, who is expected to start on Saturday against the Royals in place of the injured Andy Pettitte, went 4 2/3 innings and gave up four hits — all singles — with four strikeouts to two walks. He came out with runners on first and third before Eric Wordekemper let them both score on a three-run dingy. He surrendered three earned runs total and threw 73 pitches with 48 of them going for strikes, and, according to LoHud, did not allow a ball to be hit in the air.

Prior to his oblique injury Mitre put up some decent numbers this season, albeit mostly in a mop-up role.

While we all know it’s impossible for him to replace a man of Andrew Eugene’s stature, it is possible for Mitre to step in and handle his business. Let’s hope he pitches well because Pettitte might be out until September when all is said and done. God speed Meat Stick.
