Well, for me, that player has always been Brandon Lyon (not exactly sure why).  Though he did help my fantasy team in 2006 and 2007 with combined 58 holds and a 3.89 and 2.69 ERA respectively. Then again in 2008 when he posted a career high in saves with 26.  Last year, the 33-year-old reliever was 4-2 with one save, 12 holds and a 3.10 ERA in 67 appearances with the Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays while spending a lot of time on my fantasy team’s bench: Enough about how Lyon has effected my fantasy team and on to what he will mean for the Mets.  According to Adam Rubin, the right-hander will put the Mets 40-man roster at 40: Lyon would appear to warrant a major league contract, which would put the Mets’ 40-man roster at a full 40. Because Feliciano, Atchison and Hawkins all signed minor league deals, and with an outfielder such as Andrew Brown or Marlon Byrd potentially needing to be added to the roster as well, the Mets could need to free as many as four 40-man roster spots by Opening Day. With the Mets not comfortable with Frank Francisco, as it was reported last week, Lyon gives them another option with significant closing experience. Over his 11-year big league career the right-hander has compiled 79 saves.  Assuming he signs with the club, the New York bullpen — in my opinion — seems to rounding out rather nicely.  NY will have added veteran relievers Scott Atchison, LaTroy Hawkins, and Lyon to go along with Josh Edgin, Bobby Parnell, Frank Francisco, and assuming healthy, Pedro Feliciano. A group with the potential to be very competitive, with the potential to become a strength for the Mets.
