The New York Mets entered Friday night’s Subway Series opener having scored a Major League best 150 two-out runs.  And in the first inning of their 6-4 series opening victory, the Mets upped that total to 155 courtesy of Justin Turner and Ike Davis.

With the bases full of Mets, Lucas Duda failed to drive in a run hitting a shallow pop fly into center field recording the innings second out.  But, as Mets fans have come to learn this season, two-outs simply means: the fun is about to begin.  In just his second start since returning from the disabled list, Justin Turner did not disappoint the Citi Field faithful.  With the count even at 1-1, Turner ripped a two-out, two-run single into center field giving the boys in blue and orange the early 2-0 lead.

New York Mets first baseman, Ike Davis followed the Turner single with a two-out hit of his own. This hit, however, found it’s way over the right field wall thanks to a little help from Yankee right fielder Nick Swisher.

“I just couldn’t jump high enough,” Swisher said, according to ESPN New York. Swisher just missed on making an inning-ending catch, but instead aided the ball over the fence with his glove, giving the Mets a 5-0 lead they would not relinquish.

The home run for Davis marked his fifth with at least two men aboard (four three-run shots, one grand slam); tying him with Oakland’s Brandon Inge for the most in the majors. Following the game, Davis had this to say about his three-run homer:

[I just wanted to] see if I could make contact hard somewhere. Hopefully it found grass. And I just got enough of it to get it over the wall. I was hoping the wind gust would push a little farther. But a home run’s a home run and I will definitely take it.”

Davis finished the game with one hit in four at-bats and is now hitting .351 (13-37) with three home runs and 15 RBI in his last 12 games, improving his season average to .191 in the process:
