New York Mets Injury Updates: Justin Verlander, Omar Narvaez
USA TODAY Sports

There's some good news and some not so good news.

First up, Mets ace Justin Verlander underwent follow-up imaging on Wednesday, which showed reduced inflammation in his teres major muscle. The Mets say he will continue throwing, which he has been doing since landing on the IL last Thursday.

While the latest development on Verlander was promising, there is still no timetable for his return.

Tylor Megill will start the Mets' home opener in place of Verlander on Thursday.

Now the not so good news. Catcher Omar Narvaez exited the Mets' game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday after tweaking his calf.

Narvaez is day-to-day for the time being.

Should Narvaez have to go on the IL, top prospect Francisco Alvarez could potentially be called up to major league roster.

Alvarez has a 1.056 OPS and two home runs through his first 16 at-bats with Triple-A Syracuse this season.
