Biggest Surprise of First Half:
Although it’s been a pretty inconsistent year for the Mets, outfielder Marlon Byrd has been having a consistent one himself. Byrd has been swinging the bat hot this season, leading his team in home runs with 15. He is batting an impressive .271 and even leads superstar third baseman David Wright in RBI’s with 51. Byrd has been a great surprise at the plate for this Mets ball club, but the big surprise has been on the mound. Starting pitchers Jeremy Hefner and Dillon Gee have had solid seasons, each with over 80 strikeouts so far. Gee has a complete game notched under his belt this season and Hefner has an impressive 3.33 ERA.
