MLB News: The New York Mets have optioned pitcher D.J. Mitchell to Triple-A Las Vegas after signing him to a minor league contract on Monday. Being designated for assignment by the Seattle Mariners a week and a half ago, Mitchell chose to become a free agent and try his luck elsewhere.
Fantasy Ramifications: Mitchell holds no true fantasy baseball value in 2013. Even when he makes it to the major leagues, he will not have a strong enough role with a team to warrant an addition to any roster. Leave him be in dynasty leagues.

Laffey or McHugh? Laffey or McHugh? Laffey or McHugh? Remember when I wrote that as a caption to the picture on the left back in March?
When you scan the organizational leaders in pitching only two names predominantly appear across every major statistical category; Rafael Montero, who has been chronicled very heavily here on MMO, and then there is Collin McHugh.
The New York Mets may have had a day off the field yesterday, but that doesn’t mean that things behind the scenes are standing still. On Sunday the team announced that it had recalled 24-year-old lefty Rob Carson from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League and designated LHP Aaron Laffey for assignment. The 6-4, 240-pounder was 1-0 with 1.17 ERA in eight games with the...
Baseball 101: Regardless of the level of play, if a pitcher walks too many batters he will be beaten.
It is a baseball fundamental understood by everybody, with the exception of those insisting the Mets bring up Zack Wheeler, who walked six hitters in his last start.
WHEELER: Not ready.
The clamoring is getting louder in the wake of the Mets’ continued problems with the back end...

The Mets announced that Jon Niese has a bruise, but that X-Rays were negative and are saying he is day-to-day.
Good news, to say the least…
Jon Niese was just removed from the game in the top of the third inning after being hit by a batted ball by Mark Ellis while trying to get out of it’s way.
He dropped to the ground in pain, but left the field...
The never ending Flushing Roller Coaster continues to make tight turns and rapid drops before making its ascent. In yet another move by the Mets, OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis was sent back down to AAA Las Vegas, and Juan Lagares was promoted to the big club.
According to scouts, Lagares:
"I like him. He's a very instinctive player. He runs the bases well. He gets out of the box. He always
Adam Rubin of ESPN New York (who else), posted the full details of the deal the Mets signed with Shaun Marcum. The one-year deal guarantees him $4 million as well knew, but here’s the breakdown of the other $4 million he can earn with incentives:
– $250,000 apiece for reaching 120, 140, 160 and 170 innings.
– $375,000 apiece for reaching 180 and 190 innings.
– $500,0000 for...

A minor league pitcher in the New York Mets' organization has drawn a 50-game drug penalty.

JAYSON WERTH WHIFFS: Sit your ass down, sucker!
You know that feeling when Scott Rice walked the first two batters in the 8th inning yesterday with the Mets clinging to a 2 run lead? Kind of a helpless sense of doom and despair where you can’t bear to watch? With a little help from Jayson Werth the result didn’t turn out like so many other late-inning debacles have, but as I...
The Mets and Dodgers start a series tomorrow night as the Mets look to build off of a series win against the Nationals. The Mets are catching the Dodgers at a good time as several players are struggling and moral is low. The Dodgers catch the Mets at an interesting time as they just beat two of the better pitchers in baseball (Strasburg, Zimmermann) and the Mets will get another...
The Seattle Mariners offense is again at the bottom of the league in production. The front office has been working to improve the hitting for several years now -- why hasn't it worked? We look at some of the primary culprits while giving kudos to the process that was used.
