According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the New York Mets have acquired middle infielder, Brandon Hicks, from the Oakland Athletics for cash considerations: #bbpBox_273169488806035456 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_273169488806035456 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Mets acquire Brandon Hicks from Oakland for cash considerations. about 7 hours ago via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite @AdamRubinESPN Adam Rubin #bbpBox_273169827902939136 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_273169827902939136 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Ronny Cedeno is a free agent, so Mets need backup middle infield depth. about 7 hours ago via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite @AdamRubinESPN Adam Rubin The 27-year-old short stop batted .172 with three homers, one walk, two strikeouts and seven RBI over 64 at-bats with Oakland in 2012. He also hit .244 with 18 homers and 61 RBIs at Triple-A Sacramento. After being claimed off waivers by the Oakland A’s, Melissa Lockard of Athletics Clubhouse described the 27-year-old as a solid defender with decent pop for a short stop, saying: “Hicks’ calling card as a minor leaguer has been his glove. He has a strong arm, good hands and is reportedly remarkably consistent. Hicks also has decent power for a shortstop, having collected double-digit homeruns in three of his last four minor league seasons. He is a free-swinger, however, and has more strike-outs than games played in three of his past four seasons.” Below is the former Texas A&M short stops 2007 Scouting Report, which states “Hicks is a speedy shortstop with excellent defensive skills and tremendous makeup. All of that won’t make him an everyday shortstop at the next level unless he can hit enough, something that scouts question. Worst-case, he could make for a very good defensive-minded utility guy who can run.”
