Today the New York Yankees and Trenton Thunder signed an extension to the player development contract (PDC) keeping the Thunder the Double A-Affiliate for the Yankees through 2022. At Waterfront Park in Trenton Yankees’ general manager Brian Cashman and Thunders’ co-owner Joe Caruso made it official with a press conference and signing of the PDC contract. “We are both honored and humbled to remain of the Yankees family for the next ten years,” said Thunder President Joe Finley. “We are proud to be an integral part of the premier player development system in all of Major League Baseball and look forward to remaining in that role for years to come.” The Yankees and Thunder first came together in 2002 and with this current contract extension they will be one of only 25 Minor League teams of the 160 to have had a continued affiliation with a Major League club for over 20 years. In the 10 seasons of being the Yankees Double-A affiliate the Thunder have complied a 754-656 record and reach...

Lohan seen hanging with former Yanks

The former child star's stock has dropped off greatly over the last few years, so much so that she's now being seen out with Yankees role players from the 1990s.

Yanks Promote Cervelli, Five Others

Francisco Cervelli headlines the list of initial Yankee call-ups. (Photo Credit: Brent Mayne) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre may have won the International League North Division Championship, but the playoff push wasn’t enough to prevent the club from getting stripped of some key components at the start of call-up season. The Yankees announced today that they have recalled six players from...

Granderson's MRI Shows No Strain, Sprain or Pulled Muscle

From George King: Used to hearing bad news when a player heads for an MRI exam, the Yankees received a positive report Saturday about Curtis Granderson’s right hamstring. Granderson left Saturday’s 4-3 victory over the Orioles after two innings for what was called a tight right hamstring. The test revealed no strain, sprain or pulled muscle. “They said it was tendinitis...

Yankees Call Up 6

With the rosters expanding today, the Yankees have called up six minor leaguers. Francisco Cervelli, Eduardo Nunez, Chris Dickerson, Adam Warren, Cory Wade, and Justin Thomas are all with the team today. To make room for Dickerson on the 40-man, Ramiro Pena was designated for assignment. I assume there will be more moves as the minor league season comes to a close.

Yankees recall Nunez from minors, start him vs O's

The New York Yankees have promoted Eduardo Nunez from Triple-A and put him in the starting lineup against Baltimore. Nunez was listed as the designated hitter Saturday. He has previously played the infield and outfield for the AL East-leading Yankees. Nunez was among six players promoted from the minors as the big league roster expanded. Right-handers Cory Wade and Adam Warren...

Source: Jeff Zelevansky/Getty Images The Yankees will send right-hander, Phil Hughes, to the mound today in the rubber match against the Baltimore Orioles. In his last start against the Blue Jays, Hughes went seven strong innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out five for the win. Curtis Granderson (tight right hamstring) is not in today’s lineup. Jeter at DH; Dickerson...

Yanks Need to Respond

Throughout the entire season, the Yankees have battled and persevered through injuries to key players. From Mariano Rivera to Alex Rodriguez, and everywhere in between, New York has called on veteran bench players to step up. Currently, the team sits two games ahead of the Baltimore Orioles for first place, and has been atop the division for the longest time since 2004 (80 straight...

The Big Apple Bomb Squad: How the Yankees Can Escape the AL East Dogfight

July 18 This is the date that we will point to if the Yankees collapse down the stretch.   “What?” you exclaim. “The Yankees? Collapse? Please.”   However, New Yorkers cannot sweep the Bombers’ recent mediocrity under the rug. On the 18th, the Yankees rolled into Oakland with a 57-34 record(or .626 winning percentage); four days later, they shipped out following...

Alex Rodriguez To Save the Day For New York Yankees?

When Alex Rodriguez went down with a broken hand after being hit by a pitch by Felix Hernandez of the Seattle Mariners on July 24, the New York Yankees held a 7 game lead over the Baltimore Orioles and 8 game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East. Many people said that due to Rodriguez’s age and declining skills and decreasing numbers, the Yankees...

Alex Rodriguez Will Begin Minor League Rehab Tomorrow

Granderson sits with hamstring injury

Curtis Granderson is being held out of the New York Yankees' lineup for the finale of a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles because of tendinitis in his right hamstring. Manager Joe Girardi said Sunday that Granderson will miss a game or two. The center fielder was pulled after the second inning of Saturday's 4-3 win. An MRI showed there was no strain or tear...

Upstart Orioles slice Yankees' lead to two games

NEW YORK -- Before his team raised even more eyebrows with another win Friday night, Buck Showalter's voice remained even keel, but his words were defiant. He was looking up, not down, he insisted, set on chasing the first-place New York Yankees in the American League East rather than checking who was behind his Baltimore Orioles in the wild-card standings. After the surprising...

Yanks go back ahead by 3 games in AL East with 4-3 wn over Orioles

By Dave Buscema, The Sports Xchange NEW YORK -- The New York Yankees had watched the Baltimore Orioles jump on them early again. The Orioles again showed they were not intimidated by the puzzled looks of those who question how they are still in the pennant race, or the Yankee Stadium atmosphere -- which often deflates teams this time of year. So, the Yankees were beset with an...
