After the 2012 season wrapped up, many speculated the Alex Rodriguez would be shipped away from the New York Yankees this winter. Well, according to the team’s general manager, Rodriguez will be in the Bronx next season. Brian Cashman insisted on Wednesday that A-Rod will definitely be in pinstripes when the 2013 season kicks off next spring. Despite rumors to the contrary the team has no interest in shipping the 37-year-old (and the five years and $114 million left on his contract) out of town. Cashman had the following to say about the situation: “We’re not trading Alex. So hopefully the Alex stuff has stopped. I’m reiterating: We’re not trading Alex Rodriguez. He’s got a full no-trade (clause). I have talked to every team in baseball. I have not offered Alex in any trade. You’ll be able to confirm that with everybody if you want.” The announce came as baseball’s big shots gathered at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa for offseason meetings. Rodriguez was benched during the Yankees’ playoff run, stoking speculation that he would likely be on his way out of town. The three-time American League MVP endured the worst season of his career in 2012, hitting .272 with 18 home runs and 57 RBI. For his part, Rodriguez has always maintained that he loves being with the Yankees and wants to stay with the team. Now that the A-Rod situation has been settled, it’s time to turn all of our “will he or won’t he” speculation to Texas Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton, who is certainly the biggest fish in this year’s offseason pond.
