What is wrong with the New York Yankees farm system?  New York Yankees logo. I will get right to the point. As of today, the state of the Yankees farm system is actually irrelevant. And here is why. REASON ONE: Fact is it does not house the talent to immediate help the team in 2013. Too many of the top prospects took a step back last season due to injuries and promotions. Obviously this delays a prospects development, which also calls for re-evaluation across the board. Unfortunately, the Yankees have no Mike Trout or Bryce Harper waiting to burst onto the scene. That is not to say one or two stars won’t emerge but not anytime soon enough to help the team now. And do not kid yourself into thinking another ‘Core Four’ is developing because it is not and never will in our lifetime again. If some of the prospects were ready now that would work because the current Yankees have plenty of veteran stars in the mix to balance things out. In the interim, the Yankees do not want to push these...

New York Yankees: 3 Up and 3 Down

The New York Yankees had a strong regular season in 2012 as they won 95 games and the AL East pennant by 2 games over Baltimore. Joe Girardi’s team snuck past the Orioles in the ALDS in a full 5-game series. All of those warm, fuzzy feelings were quickly evaporated though as they scored just 6 runs in a 4-game sweep at the hands of the Tigers. New York had a +136 run differential...

an Early Starting-Five Eval: New York Yankees

AL BEast Notebook – Feb 19 Despite the pressure and media microscope, pitching for the Yankees lately has had its advantages as the Bombers have led the league in either home runs or runs scored (or both) in each of the last four seasons. That may not be the case in 2013 as the Yankees will be without Swisher, Martin, Ibanez and A-Rod, so the room for error will be smaller. Starting...

Derek Jeter had a stress fracture in his foot, told no one

Before fracturing his ankle in game one of the ALCS against the Tigers last October, Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter was told he had a stress fracture in his foot. Yankees GM Brian Cashman said that the team only knew about a bone bruise, and manager Joe Girardi agreed with that statement. But during a media session on Sunday, Jeter came out with the revelation of the stress fracture...

Yankees' Hughes to start season on DL

New York Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes will join Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira and Curtis Granderson on the disabled list for the start of the season. Yankees manager Joe Girardi announced the decision Wednesday after watching Hughes pitch in his second minor league exhibition game since returning from a bulging disk in his upper back. Hughes is expected to miss his...

Yankees SS Derek Jeter hopes to be ready Opening Day

Although he might not appear in any New York Yankees spring training games, veteran shortstop Derek Jeter hopes to be ready for Opening Day. Jeter has been rehabbing from an ankle injury he suffered last October. He underwent surgery to his ankle and has had a metal plate and screws inserted in his ankle. Jeter spoke to reporters on Sunday and said that he hopes to ready for the...

The Speed Dimension

Brett Gardner was sorely missed in 2012.   The Bronx Bombers. A name that has always been appropriate when talking about the New York Yankees and their propensity for hitting the long ball. However, 2013 might be more Bronx Bunters than Bronx Bombers. Okay, that might be a bit of a stretch, but do not expect this team to resemble teams of years past. The Yankees have finished 1st...

Dodgers’ Official Twitter Takes Shot at Yankees; Yankees Respond

There has been a problem — an epidemic of sorts — that has plagued the Twitter accounts of many corporations. They are being overtaken by an unknown hacker who is then tweeting sometimes-offensive comments from the accounts. First, it was Burger King who was hacked. Then it was Jeep: .@jeep Glad everything is back to normal. — BurgerKing (@BurgerKing) February 19, 2013 It...

Yankees have talked to Cano about a 'significant long-term contract'

Are the New York Yankees suddenly caving in to the thought of Robinson Cano bolting the Bronx before the team's best all-around player hits the free agent market after this season. Cano's agent, Scott Boras, has made it clear that he won't ignore lucrative offers from other clubs but, at the same time, informed the Yankees he won't ignore overtures from them. The...

What Do The Stats Tell Us About A Wright and Jeter Comparison?

Updated by Joe D. You can deny it all you want, jump up and down, throw a tantrum, or just ignore the facts – the choice is yours. But when you look at the evidence, there is no denying that David Wright has practically mirrored Derek Jeter in terms of overall production and value to the team during the regular season. In fact, Wright outproduced Jeter over a broad array of offensive...

How Wrong Is This? Part 2

Look we wish Kevin Youkilis all the best. After all he was a rock for the Boston Red Sox for a long time. And while some will harbor resentment for his signing with the Red Sox's most hated rival, the New York Yankees, I personally hope he does well, just not against the Sox. But still, there's so much wrong with this picture. First off, it's Youk in...

Fat Mike Trout, A Calzone, Red Cups & A Rumple Minze Bottle

First of all, Mike Trout is 21. He can booze as much as he wants. You won’t find us beefing with Trout over booze. In fact, we encourage all athletes to booze and upload those photos to Twitter or Instagram. It’s good for the BC brand. But don’t be shocked when fans are furious over Mr. Baseball coming to training camp at 241 pounds. According to the Los Angeles Times, Trout...
