Nick Castellanos’ long-awaited Detroit Tigers debut will come Sunday afternoon against the Indians, reports Lynn Henning of the Detroit News. Nick Castellanos was just informed minutes ago he will be playing in Detroit tomorrow. — Lynn G. Henning (@Lynn_Henning) September 1, 2013 The next question: When will the call-up occur? If the Tigers promote Castellanos before the calendar turns over to Sept. 1, he’ll automatically be eligible for the team’s playoff roster. Should they wait until after Sept. 1, Castellanos would have to take the place of an injured player to be included in the postseason. (Luis Marte’s lingering injury could provide that opportunity.) If Castellanos does indeed jump into the lineup on Sunday, it likely would be in left field, where he’s been playing for the Mud Hens. Of course, Castellanos came up through the Tigers’ system as a third baseman — an intriguing sidebar with Miguel Cabrera’s lingering injury issues. Ramon Santiago started at third for Detroit on Saturday night. Regardless of where he plays, Castellanos’ arrival should be met with plenty of fanfare. He is the Tigers’ top prospect, especially with Avisail Garcia being dealt to Chicago earlier this season. And the Tigers have struggled to get production in left field, with Andy Dirks and Matt Tuiasosopo splitting time out there all season.

Tigers reporter gets doused with water

The harassment of dugout reporters has reached a new level. After the Tigers beat the Athletics 7-6 on a dramatic walkoff homer by Torii Hunter, Justin Kelly was all set to interview Hunter on the field at Comerica Park. Hunter answered White's first question before Prince Fielder ran out of the dugout and dumped a jar of gumballs all over Hunter. No big deal, they're just...

Game 2013.136: Twins at Tigers

Detroit Tigers: 79-56, 1st Place (7.5 ahead of Cleveland).  Really, it is the most remarkable thing: Cleveland just cannot beat Detroit. After cruising to a rain-shortened victory last night, Detroit improved to 14-3 against their division rivals. There is nothing like that at the top of any other division in baseball; I don’t know when the last time there has been. CLE 68 ...

Tigers' Cabrera pulled early again

Cabrera left Thursday's game after hurting his abdomen while making an awkward...

Game 2013.137: Indians at Tigers

Detroit Tigers: 80-56, 1st Place (8.5 ahead of Cleveland).  Well, this is it, that last Tigers-Indians game of 2013. The Tigers will finish the season series either 16-3 or 15-4 against Cleveland, depending on what Justin Verlander and the B Team can do this afternoon.  As the Indians leave the field toward that visitor’s clubhouse for the last time, I am sure there will be a...

Tigers continue domination over Tribe with 7-2 win

The Tigers won on Friday night but with the uncertainty they now are facing with Miguel Cabrera the net effect might have been a loss. Cabrera came out of the Tigers’ rain-shortened 7-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians with more irritation of the abdominal area -- the second time in two days he's left a game early. And this time he didn’t say “I’m OK.” Instead...

Your Morning Dump...Where the Sox win another series, prepare to take on the Tigers

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. The consistent Red Sox keep proving they can beat up the bad teams, as they did in their weekend sweep of the White Sox in a series in which they once again avoided the top pitcher on a team’s staff...

Miggy puts WS ahead of Triple Crown

Should Detroit fans be worried? Mr. Triple Crown Miguel Cabrera sat out the past two games with an abdominal strain. Maybe, he'll play Monday at Boston. Maybe, he won't. Maybe, he'll just play a few innings, which is what he did Thursday and Friday in Cleveland before exiting early because of that nagging injury. What we do know is that the 2013 AL MVP indicated to...
