Nick Ramirez Recalled, Kyle Hurt Placed On 15-Day Injured List
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Nick Ramirez from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed Kyle Hurt on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation, retroactive to April 17.

Ramirez joins the Dodgers for the second time this season. He last pitched three scoreless innings for the Dodgers, including two on Jackie Robinson Day.

His outing earned some praise from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, but Ramirez ended up being optioned the following day to make room for Hurt and Eduardo Salazar as the team was in-need of fresh pitchers.

Ramirez was acquired by the New York Yankees for cash considerations after he was designated for assignment. The Southern California native made 32 appearances for the Yankees in 2023, striking out 28 batters in 40.2 innings.

He also finished the season with a career-best 2.66 ERA while recording one save in two chances. Ramirez also limited walks and the long ball incredibly well, so despite his low strikeout rate, he was still able to post a 2.94 FIP.

He only pitched three innings for the Oklahoma City Baseball Club, allowing two runs on five hits with a 1.67 WHIP and four strikeouts.

Over his MLB career, Ramirez owns a 3.97 ERA, 4.14 FIP and 1.33 WHIP across 154.1 innings with a 19.2% strikeout rate and 8.4% walk rate.

It’s unclear how long Hurt will be out, but he will likely be shut down from throwing for a few days. If the injury is just truly shoulder inflammation, he should be able to begin rehabbing it after a few days of rest.

Hurt was back for his second stint with the Dodgers. He made the Opening Day roster in South Korea and remained with the team once their 2024 schedule resumed stateside, but was eventually optioned back to Triple-A.

He pitched two shutout innings against the Nationals, allowing three hits with no strikeouts and no walks. Overall, he’s thrown 6.2 innings at the MLB level this year, allowing two runs and striking out three.
