Your browser does not support iframes. Ike Davis hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first of the Mets-Yankees series opener on Friday, but he did it thanks to some help from Nick Swisher. The Yankees right fielder was tracking Davis’ fly ball down the line and seemed to have his jump perfectly timed. Unfortunately, he missed on his catch and seemed to send the ball over the fence for a homer. “It definitely hit my glove, there’s no doubt about that,” Swisher said, according to the New York Post. “I just couldn’t pull it in. I wish I could have.” The play was enough to help the Mets win the game 6-4. I realize that making a catch against the wall isn’t easy, but it’s not like the Yankees were asking Swisher to pull off something amazing like this. He could have had that ball, and he knows it.

Subway Squawkers will be clucking at the Subway Series

So Squawker Jon and I will be at Friday and Sunday's Subway Series games. Sunday, in particular, looks to be shaping up as a great matchup, what with R.A. Dickey facing CC Sabathia. And just in time for the Subway Series, a Met has said something dopey and ridiculous.I am not talking about closer Frank Francisco telling the New York Post that "I can’t wait to face those...

Minors Wrap-Up: Ortiz’s Great Performance Wasted

AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Ramon Ortiz turned in seven innings of one-run ball, but saw a great effort wasted as the Yankees couldn’t put anything together offensively. Ortiz allowed just five hits and struck out seven. Ronnier Mustelier was one of the few offensive threats, going 1-for-4 with an RBI. Kevin Russo and Chris Dickerson were [...]

Frank Francisco Calls Out Yankees, Says 'I Can't Wait to Face Those Chickens'

Frank Francisco is not having a good season, but that's done nothing to deter the reliever's confidence. Francisco's Mets will take on the Yankees for three games beginning on Friday, and he had a simple message for his upcoming opponents. "I can't wait to face those chickens," Francisco told the New York Post. "I want to strike out the side against...

5 awesome things about Friday’s win over the Yankees

Last night the New York Mets extended their winning streak to four games with a 6-4 victory over the Yankees and quite frankly, it was awesome.  I know it’s just one game, but the way it unfurled from start to finish had to leave Mets fans with a great feeling heading into the weekend.  As I recapped the events that led to the win and the Mets ultimately picking up a game on...

Post Game: Yankees 4 Mets 3

Chris Young pitched 6 innings giving up 3 runs on a home run. The Mets lost to the Yankees today by a score of 4-3. Young pitched well for 6 innings before giving up a 3 run homer to Ibanez. Jon Rauch gave up a game winning homer to Eric Chavez. The Mets runs came on a solo shot by Kirk, an RBI by Thole, and a base hit by Chris Young. Daniel Murphy took Soriano to the warning track...

Yankees Game 69 Lineup: 06/22/12

The Yankees had an off day yesterday and return to baseball today with a trip across the city for another for another weekend Subway Series against the Mets. The Yankees enter the series coming off of a two-game losing streak, their first since the end of May. They swept the Mets last time when they [...]

Yankees beat Mets, halt 3-game skid

Raul Ibanez tied the game with a three-run homer, pinch-hitter Eric Chavez came through with a go-ahead shot moments later and the New York Yankees rallied past the New York Mets 4-3 Saturday night to stop a three-game skid. Riding the long ball again, the Yankees won for the fourth time in five Subway Series matchups this season. The finale is quite an attraction, too, with R.A...

I Hate The New York Yankees So, So Much

I hate the New York Yankees almost as much as I love the Boston Red Sox. I might even hate the Yankees a little bit more. Until the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004, one of my greatest sports memories was watching the Yankees lose in the 2002 postseason to the Angels. I watched it in my brother’s college dorm room and the two of us celebrated like we had just won 10 grand on...
