Tacoma 10, Las Vegas 1 The Las Vegas 51s managed just four hits Friday against visiting Tacoma in a 10-1 loss at Cashman Field. The 51s allowed double-digit runs for the second straight game and dropped their third straight overall. Partially responsible for that huge run total was starter Carlos Torres, who was rocked for six earned runs over five innings. Dylan Owen struggled as well, allowing three earned runs over his two innings of work. Unfortunately for Las Vegas, Tacoma only failed to score in two innings while they were being no-hit for most of this game. Josh Satin, Andrew Brown and Kirk Nieuwenhuis were the only men who picked up hits for Vegas in this one, with Josh Satin responsible for two of the combined four. The recently demoted Nieuwenhuis led off the ninth inning with a double, and was sent home via a Josh Satin RBI single. Vegas will continue the series with the third game out of four on Saturday evening, at 10:05 PM. Key Stats Kirk Nieuwenhuis: 1-for-4, 1 2B, 1 ...

Verrett Tosses Gem, Harris Homers In B-Mets 7-2 Win

Efficient. The term popped up in my brain with the regularity Logan Verrett pounds the strike zone as I watched Verrett confuse and befuddle Akron Saturday in Binghamton. Verrett managed his pitching workload with laser life efficiency throwing two-hit ball over eight innings as the B-Mets toppled Akron, 7-2. If making good first impressions is a valued introductory tactic, Verrett...

New York Mets Option Pitcher Josh Edgin

The New York Mets optioned struggling left handed pitcher Josh Edgin to Double-A Binghamton on Saturday. Don’t fret Mets fans, unlike what is being reported by some sites, the truth is that the reason they chose Double-A over Triple-A to get his confidence back is because it is closer to their major league club and this allows for a more hands-on approach to getting his confidence...

Memorable Mets Moments: Fonzie Goes Six for Six!

Edgardo Alfonzo remains one of the most beloved Mets alumni, both for his post-season heroics (e.g. 3 HR’s including a ninth inning grand slam in the space of two vital 1999 playoff games against the Reds and Diamondbacks), and his role as part of the “Best Infield Ever” as dubbed by Sports Illustrated. His flexibility as a player made him an invaluable asset to the team which...

Mets Lose Third Straight After 9-4 Pasting By The Phils

The New York Mets lost their second straight game to the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 9-4 this afternoon at Citi Field. The loss drops them to 10-12 and they have lost eight of their last eleven games. Shaun Marcum (0-1, 6.75) made his Mets debut and lasted just four innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks. He tossed 71 pitches, 44 for strikes, and was charged...

Ron Darling no fan of NFL Draft

Everyone might be fired up about the NFL Draft ... but that's not the case for ex-New York Mets pitcher and current broadcaster Ron Darling. During Thursday's Mets-Dodgers afternoon game -- hours before the NFL fun was to begin at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, Darling had a few choice words about the overhyped event. See for yourself.

A Guest Speaker Brings Back Memories of a Great Game in Mets History

About two weekends ago my church had a men’s breakfast meeting, and the guest speaker was none other than Dwight Evans, the very productive right fielder for the Boston Red Sox from 1972-1990. Listening to Evans speak about his life in baseball and the many things that affected his game, brought me back to the only game that mattered in my life when I was a kid. Dewey didn’t mention...

Mets’ Ynoa and Lara Add To Dominican Pitching Pipeline

The Mets boast a quartet of Dominican arms who rank among the top-15 prospects in the organization. Jeurys Familia, Rafael Montero, Luis Mateo and Domingo Tapia are off to strong starts. And with Rainy Lara and Gabriel Ynoa pitching well in Savannah, the core of young, Dominican arms will only continue to grow. Video(s) after the jump Lara is pitching well in his first taste of full...

Mets Squander Solid Start By Hefner In 3-2 Loss To Dodgers

There were no extra-inning dramatics in this one – no buck shots either – as the Mets squandered a solid start from Jeremy Hefner in a 3-2 matinee loss to the Dodgers. Hefner gave the Mets seven solid innings on the mound, allowing just one run on three hits and three walks while striking out three. He didn’t figure into the decision and left with the game knotted at 1-1. The...

Ump O'Nora exits Phils-Mets with flulike symptoms

Home plate umpire Brian O'Nora exited the Phillies-Mets game in the first inning Friday night because of flulike symptoms, resulting in a nine-minute delay. The game was stopped while the Mets were batting in the bottom of the first. It resumed with three umpires after first base ump Adrian Johnson changed into his plate gear. O'Nora headed to the Mets' dugout on the...

Mets Blanked By Phillies 4-0, Fall Under .500 For First Time This Season

The New York Mets were shutout by the Philadelphia Phillies 4-0 tonight at Citi Field. Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick hurled a complete game gem, limiting the revamped Mets lineup to just three hits and a walk. For the Mets, Dillon Gee was matching zeroes with Kendrick for five innings and actually did a nice job of keeping the Phillies off the board until the dreaded sixth inning...

The Phils take the series as the offense comes out smoking as they beat the Mets, 9-4.

The Phils’ offense comes out smoking as they take the series from the Mets, defeating New York, 9-4. The Mats took the lead in the bottom of the second as, with a runner on second, and with two men out, Jordany Valdespin hits an RBI double, scoring Ike Davis, who had earlier doubled, giving the Mets a 1-0 lead. The Phils tied the game up at one-all in the top of the third as, with...
