Nix has hit well since joining the Tribe.
We’re 11 games in to Jayson Nix tenure as an Indian and the utility man is already making an impact on the offense. The 27-year-old was picked up via waivers from the White Sox on June 24 to fill in during the Indians middle infield woes.
Though his time has been much shorter than Luis Valbuena, Nix has given the Indians a much better and more reliable bat. In 38 at-bats he has hit .316 with three doubles, four home runs and 7 RBI. He has walked three times and struck out six, and though those numbers are not fantastic, his OPS is 1.091.
This is a marked improvement from the numbers that Nix was putting up for the South Siders. In 49 plate appearances he only hit .163 with a .513 OPS, hitting only one double and one home run.
Defensively Nix has been solid as well, playing a perfect second base in 10 games in the field.
While the sample size for judgment is far too small at this time, it’s certainly encouraging to see a young player who cost the Indians nothing putting up such good numbers. Hopefully Nix’ success will not be limited to the first month of his Tribe tenure.
