Found September 22, 2013 on Fightin For Philly:
It’s that time of the year again-time to make our predictions for who will be bringing home silver this offseason. We’ll be looking at my predictions for the MVP, Cy Young, and Rookie of the Year. Yesterday, I predicted who will be winning these awards in the American League which can be found here. Today, I’ll be predicting who will win these awards in the National League.  MVP Clayton Kershaw, SP, Dodgers- Yes, a pitcher winning the MVP. In fact, the second pitcher to win the MVP in the last three years. For a while there voters shied away from giving pitchers the MVP award. However, in recent years they’ve shown a propensity to vote for pitchers as the MVP of his league. We’ve all heard the arguments against it; they only play in 30-35 games a year whereas an MVP caliber position player plays in 140-162. However, when the pitcher is playing he has the most impact on the game. Whether the team wins or loses depends almost all on him. To determine Kershaw’s worthiness we’ll have to compare his 2013 stats to the stats of the most recent starting pitcher to win the MVP: Justin Verlander in 2011. In 2013, Kershaw’s ERA is 1.88, tops in the league. In 2011, Verlander’s ERA was 2.40, also tops in the league. Kershaw has thrown 230 innings so far this season, Verlander had thrown 251. Kershaw has 224 Ks (8.8/9 IP) this season, in 2011 Verlander had 250 (9.0/9 IP). Kershaw has 4.31 strikeouts per walk, Verlander had 4.39. Kershaw has a WHIP of .922, Verlander’s was .920. All of these are very comparable numbers. Kershaw has a lower ERA and walks less people. Verlander had a larger workload, thus the higher stikeout total. The many similarities in their numbers point to Kershaw as more than deserving of the MVP. Cy Young Clayton Kershaw, Dodgers- Obviously if a pitcher is going to win the MVP of his league, he’s going to win the Cy Young as well. Enough said. ROY Jose Fernandez, SP, Marlins- Not many pitchers can pitch in High A one year, then win a spot in the starting rotation with the big league club next spring. Even fewer can become the ace of the staff and dominate all season long. Well Jose Fernandez did both of those things. He has 187 strikeouts over 172.2 innings pitched. He has a 2.19 ERA and is allowing just .979 baserunners per inning. Fernandez is striking out 9.7 batters per game and has given up just 10 home runs all season. He’s been completely dominant since his first start. Some will say he isn’t deserving because his team was awful (last place in the NL east), and because he was shut down a few weeks before season’s end due to a team imposed innings limit. Yasiel Puig will get a lot of votes as well, but because of his polarizing personality and because Fernandez is flat out better (watch as he strikes out Puig and Puig throws a tantrum). Also, Fernandez makes amazing plays. And he pisses off the Braves which, as a Phillies fan, is always great.

Dodgers' Kershaw tunes up for playoffs with 4-0 victory over Padres

It would have been arrogant to say so at the time so Don Mattingly kept it to himself. But the Dodgers manager admitted Saturday that winning a division championship wasn't the only thing on his to-do list heading into the season. To Mattingly when the Dodgers clinched a postseason berth was almost as important as the clinching itself. And securing one with nine games to go...
